Me and a friend were going for our first multiplayer experience yesterday, and i was host. When i tried to connect to my machine, it just said that he was´nt able to find my machine. Can anybody tell me why?
We tried him as host as well, and after many tries (most of the times it said that it did´nt find his machine) i were able to connect, but at the same time his program shut down. This happend several times, and we were not able to play anything. Can u help me?

BID is sort of a one-way software firewall that you can purchase (I use it myself in conjuction with Tiny Personal Firewall). As I haven't played EU multiplayer yet, I haven't seen any conflicts between EU and BID.

But anyway, if you don't have it on your system, you obviously don't have to worry about turning it off.

MP and Firewalls

Sorry K.I. BID is a personal firewall, for those with always on connections to the net. I'm willing to bet that *any* active firewall will interfere with the smooth functioning of the mp game. And the lag disconnects with modem play are fairly regular.

Also, as I suggested earlier, please check to see that you are both playing the same version of the game (don't conflate GC and IGC versions too).

Regarding firewalls.

Drop the software crap and get yourselfs a real Router (there are some quite cheep 4port switches with built in routers btw).
Virtually impossible to breake through if set up correctly and doesn't have any strange incompabilities.

Routers

Huszics suggests that I abandon BID or other software firewalls for a real router. However, I've had two people with different types of real routers fail completely with EU multiplayer. Couldn't even get recognized or connected to the game or even host. At least I can turn off BID to play. Ah, the wonderful world of proprietary capitalism.:)

Obviously you have to open up the ports used by the game for traffic =)
At least while your playing.

If it could get through without you letting it... it wouldn't be much of a security measure, would it :D

no game found

I have DSL (which as I recall has a firewall -- don't know if I can de-activate it) so maybe I can't host a game; but, my friend has cable and we couldn't get connected either way and trying to use either the LAN or internet option. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, one of you need to know the otherones IP (which is usually dynamically assigned, Run winipcfg).
Sadly I can't help you test it out sice I'm running 1.09 betas =(.

multi-player problem

We do know each other's IP addresses -- while we are looged on we can talk to each other as well -- one of the advantages of having DSL or cable.

How soon before 1.09 comes out?

Do you mean inside the game or with some other software ?

How soon before 1.09 comes out?

3+ weeks... still.
