Yeap, the game neeeeeeeeeeeeds the ability to vary the speed in multiplayer, between 1936 and up to any war, it runs a tad slow mayhaps, but when you get into the gritty war buisniss..the game runs WAAYY to fast even on the slowest setting...

We need even slower settings in multiplayer to be able to actually utilize some of the things available to us ..

Otherwise it will just be ..group units..throw em in..build more...no finesse..no tactics no nothing..its hopeless to control anything..
This problem extends to the germans, uk and others with huge empires..the russians dont suffer as much I guess...

In this one game, the uk had invaded half of france before I even noticed something was going on.
While this sounds cool...he was in Berlin before I had even managed to move my units.

The units just simply wade through my lands like butter.

So I guess I would also like the units to move slower...

I like to play on speed 'below normal' all the time. But you are right, it might be too fast when there is a lot action going on.

A solution for the starting period in 1936 would be to start a game on a faster setting and when the action starts to save + exit and slow down the speed.

Yes, saving and exiting is a TEMPORARY solution, but the game really should allow speed changes within a multiplayer game.

Also, I think the pause feature is messed up in multiplayer. Only the same guy that pauses the game can unpause it.

Unfortunately its an issue with the game engine as in EU2. I suggested changing it however it was not to be unfortunately. BIB is right saving and restarting is all we can do. Often MP games will be set to Normal until the War really begins. Then you must play at "below normal" speed. You will get better as time goes on and be able to micromanage all your assets even in time of war. Great Britain might be a wee bit of a challenge though. I recommend your most seasoned veteran(s) to play them and Germany.

Umm..i LOVE normal speed..for everything in mp...it gives u a sense of excitment..u got to go fast..just push enter quickly to kill the pop ups..its GREAT to fight at normal speeds..althoguh i hate aircraft.using them..while needed...really sucks..although u could just turn off the popups..i think..

well

While I agree, you can just restart..and its no big hassle..the problem comes with the fact that hte slowest speed is still murder....
My war in russia was over against the germans in less than 5-6 minutes..the troops ran all over the place and finished me off.
It was impossible to manage a defense..
The best you can do is to make superstacks of troops...ie pool everything you got into one stack..and mop up

this makes the game kinda boring and a tad too haywire for my strategic needs..
I already got starcraft

I would agree with your statement two months ago :)............however especially in the 36 scenario it can get quite boring on "below normal" speed. Any slower and it would affect other MP players complaining how long it took to play the game. I agree it could be an option but its murder to those not in combat at the time. Remember it has to be a fair speed for all who play MP ie 4person or greater game. Imagine playing the USA just waiting and waiting.......................
With practice you will have no probs playing at this speed. You can always use pause for those extingent cases.

An instantaneous pause would go a long way towards improving things.

ALso having the OPTION of allowing speed changes would be great... for those of us who play LAN games. Also being able to slow to less than Below Normal would be a tremendous help.

as it seems

We play at normal or above normal speeds when there is nothing going on or just germany whacking minors, but we turn down the speed when the big thing gets rolling, but even at below normal, the units move so fast they can reach anywhere within hours.

I dont think an army could get from the border of Poland to Moscow in a few hours, they got supply lines to think of, and even a tank corps doesnt run at racer car speeds.

Basically as it is now, if you're even 10 seconds away from the front, it might spell doom as the enemy can have advanced several sectors in just that time.

How on earth are we to manage our provinces while fighting then...or manage air support, its impossible. I dont have more than two hands..
As for the feeling of stress and tension, I agree that this might be nice, but it makes the game so stressfull It's not fun to play, I belive that my reflexes are not of that of a 14 year old anymore, and I dont wanna play a game that stresses me out like starcraft does..its simply not healthy. I want the game to move at a comfortable pace.

Both these issues are being looked at.

As someone who bought the game but hasn't opened it yet because I want to return it if it is effectively unplayable in multiplayer, would widespread use of the pause feature be a way of getting around the excessive multiplayer speed? Or do you need to wait for 30 seconds for the pause to take effect?

I love you all for adressing these important aspects. I want to play a STRATEGY game, not an action game with 700 tech researches. Slow the speed and allow unlimited instant pauses and let people think if they want to.

Elsewhere it's been posted that version 1.02 will have instant pause for multiplayer and one or two slower speeds available for multiplayer so it looks like they are addressing this issue.

I'd like to chime in once again to say I'm looking for a strategy game not an action game and I hope the developers take this seriously that many of us want a SLOW strategy game (one that will take us months, of real time, playing a few hours at a time one or two sessions per week).

For those that haven't openned it yet or bought it, the current v1.01 version *is* playable but there is a lot of room for improvement with a few reasonably minor changes. (one of the most important being the ability to dynamically adjust the speed during the game without having to save and reload and reconnect).

As to closing all those dialog boxes rapidly, this is extremely hazardous! Just last night I was playing Romania and Russia demanded some territory from me... well.. too fast on the old enter key and opps (gave away two provinces)!

Below normal is way too fast when you have mutliple things going on - even multiple provences with coordinated air support is a real pain.

I can't imagine being in Britain's shoes, with junk all over the planet.

What I woud like to see:

1) Instant pause from ANY MP player.

2) Two speed notches below the current slowest setting

3) The ability for any player to change the speed setting lower, but perhaps only the game host to change it faster in MP play
