Multiplayer won't host or join

Ive played this game on multiplayer a lot on my old pc through game ranger and since i got a new one ive had problems with darkest hour, i have to run the game in campatibility mode windows 7 to even start it, when my friends and i try to play through game ranger i cannot host or join a game, the button is pinked or greyed out and when i click it all i get is a sound effect but nothing else. i saw someone have this problem on here and they disabled their anti virus, i tried that too and it didn't work
