Hi,
The subject line basically says it all. I decided to subscribe to the DLC. 117 files were installed. When I restarted the game, the sound track from "Guns, Drums and Steel" had taken over the game. There is no way to turn it off in the launcher. (Actually, only the DLC's I've previously bought are visible in the launcer, and even if I turn them off there, they are still active ingame. all the DLC's are active all the time. Seems like nothing I do in the launcher actually affects the game.) The only way to escape is to turn the music volume to zero. But an important part of the gameplay experience for me was the original music. How can I deactivate the "Guns, Drums and Steel" (and Guns, Drums and Steel vol.2") music, and get back the old music? Do I have to unsubscribe from DLC?

At the moment it's not possible to disable specific DLC unless you edit a file on your PC.

1. Go here and edit the following file using notepad (right click > open with Notepad): %userprofile%\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\dlc_load.json

2. Once you have it open, locate the following line:

“subscription_dlc/”:
{
"enabled_mods":[],
"disabled_dlcs":["subscription_dlc/dlc/dlc010_conquest_of_paradise/dlc010.dlc"]
}

3. This is where you can disable DLC manually, you can disable one or several by adding them to the same row. For example, this line disables both Conquest of Paradise and Origins:

"disabled_dlcs":["subscription_dlc/dlc/dlc010_conquest_of_paradise/dlc010.dlc","subscription_dlc/dlc/dlc110_origins/dlc110.dlc"]}

You can get the DLC names in the Steam EU4 folder, under subscription_dlc/dlc/ .

this is the content of the dlc_load.json :
{"enabled_mods":["mod/pdx_35085.mod","mod/pdx_8607.mod"],"disabled_dlcs":[]}

There is also no subscription_dlc folder in the EU4 folder in steamapps.

Hmm, well it must be there somewhere! Unfortunately I can't check that for you as I don't have a subscription of course. Does a search for subscription_dlc find it?

I've tried to edit the dlc_load.json file without success.
I've also done a search on both the local drive and on onedrive for a subscription_dlc folder, but cannot find it anywhere. In the Steam EU4 folder there is dlc, builtin_dlc, and dlc_metadata folders.
I'm using Windows 10. Are there other files on my system that need to be/can be edited to disable spesific subscription dlc's?

You could try to search for one of the dlc files, e.g. "dlc010.dlc".

Does the following dlc_load.json work?
Code:
{"enabled_mods":["mod/pdx_35085.mod","mod/pdx_8607.mod"],"disabled_dlcs":["subscription_dlc/dlc/dlc031_guns_drums_and_steel/dlc031.dlc","subscription_dlc/dlc/dlc037_guns_drums_and_steel_volume_2/dlc037.dlc"]}

Disclaimer: I'm not working for Paradox. I'm just trying to help people.

Edit: fixed the broken code tags

YES! It works. thank you very much! You just saved my game experience. :)
Did you try to search for "dlc010.dlc" (or maybe "dlc031.dlc" if you own conquest of paradise normally)? I'm curious where the subscription DLCs are stored now, because I don't have the subscription either and this would be useful to know to help others who want to disable DLCs.

I finally found it! I don't know why my previous search didn't work...
It's in: C:\%userprofile%\OneDrive\Dokumenter\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\cache\dlc

Thank you for the information

Hi! I have the same problem, and I must ciritcize that it sucks big time that you are forced to use the music pack without having to manually edit some files. Is there any way to end the subscrition prematurely?

If you don't want to change game files, you can also use mods which change the music. For example Guns, Drums and Steel as additional music (feat. Original Main Theme) which brings back the original music and then you can disable the guns drums and steel versions in the in game music player

I have followed your advide and manually edited the file. It seems to work. Thank you very much.

However, I still don't think that this should be nesecarry to disable a music-dlc.
