Situation:
I get music, but it usualy cuts out after a bit. This error prevents other programs (like winamp) from running. I have tried everthing through and including formatting c: and reinstalling XP and of course the self help thread suggestions.

The game is no fun for me without the music.

Resolution:
I am happy to turn the music off and run winamp in the background. However, I want to retain the music by period. Is there any way to get a sorted list of files and periods? Is there any way to find it in a file on my machine?

Any help would be appreciated in this my final resolution.

In the music folder you find 14.txt, 15.txt, 16.txt and 17.txt. The textfiles tells you which music will play in which century (ie 14.txt shows the songs that "belong" to 1400-1499, 15.txt which songs to 1500-1599 etc)

You would have to manually change your playlist when the apropriate century turns though.

madmario, did you apply directx 9.0b? Update your sound drivers? It really should work in the game with XP (I assume you're on SP1).

Yeah I installed dx 9b straight off of microsoft's website. I have SP1. I have all the xp critical updates. I have the latest audigy drivers. Something is just wack. :( My CD is old. I dont see any scratches but who knows? could be faulty data there at the teeny-tiny level.

I would glady trade the minor pain of manually changing playlists for the major pain of music that cuts out and requires a computer restart to start again.

And ty jarkko and everyone for the help.

Are you playing the music off the CD then? Try copying it to the hard disk.

Oh, so now I'm puzzled about your comment about the CD maybe being scratched ...

Start - Run - then type dxdiag, run the tests on each tab, then on the first tab select save results to file.
Post here as much as will fit into one post.
