Open up settings.cfg and make sure you see MUSIC_ON. Apart from that I can only suggest checking for updated sound drivers, playing around with the settings on your sound drivers/card, and doing a full re-install on EU2. The stickied self-help thread will help with some of these procedures.

Some installers were setting the music to off for some reason.
Run EU2 Config and set music on.

He said he'd done that ...

Missed the period, I thought he was confused when he mentioned 99 volume level. ;)

In that case make sure you do not have another app that is using the music pipeline.

Thanks for the help. Settings.cfg says "MUSIC_ON". I've tried a re-install. The only other thing that might be a problem is that I have the UBI Soft version on an American tailored computer. I can't see how that would be a problem but then again I don't understand the reason for seperate UK and NA versions. By the way, I can play the music files from their folder if that helps.

Self help thread is at the top of this subforum. ;)
What other programs are running in the background?

The different UK and US versions are purely to do with having different publishers, the EU2 code is identical (apart from the copy-protection stuff). That is not your problem.

Try playing the MP3 files from the EU2 CD directly, not through the game but just as music files. See if they work then. If so the problem is in EU2/DirectX, if not the problem is external.

Actually, I already tried playing the music from the CD not because I thought it was related anyway with my problem just b/c I wanted to hear them. There was only one data track. Like I said, I can play them in their file though.

I have several other programs running. Internet filter, an app for syncing my handheld, something called tfswctrl.exe which does not go away even when I try to kill it, and some where around 20 system programs running. I don't think any of those are using the pipeline.

He said he had done that. :p
Got you back, and in the same thread :D

As for what to try next, I would reduce the sound acceleration to none and see if that works.

Only choice is to play them in Winamp in the background then. :(

If you have a SonicXplosion soundcard, you might give this a try. I had the same problem as you have and doing this solved it for me :)

From the SonicXplosion supprtpage (http://www.videologic.com/Support/kb.asp?FAQ=138&Product=VL-60646#FAQs)
I can’t hear audio when playing a DivX file under XP with a MP3 audio track.

Try editing the following registry entry to show the following; HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cwcspud\CS461x\Algorithms\Basics\EnableMP3Acceleration = 00 00 00
00

All that does is reduce acceleration, which I had suggested.

However It occurs to me to ask petee, are you sure you have a legit copy, maybe someone scammed you. I find it strange you have a UBI version in NA. Did you get the complete manual and a printed CD? Which UBI version is it, who's the other logo on the CD?
