my Amazon bought copy of Crusader King refuses to start (similar problem with EU3)

Hi, I bought my copy of Crusader Kings II from Amazon and it is showing the same problems that I had with EUIII which stopped working a while after I bought it. with Crusader Kings II I can't even get it to load. I keep getting these popup notices

I'm told it could be something to do directX, but I'm not sure how as I don't really understand computers despite using them nearly every day. I'm not sure its do with Steam, as my copy of EUIII didn't automatically go onto steam like my copy of CKII. Could someone please help me or else I've wasted £25!

its suddenly starting working, though I have no idea how or why.
 
its loaded up the demo instead of the full game which is bizarre so i clicked on the full game, so I still have problems
 
full game still won't work :angry::sad:
 
managed to get it to work :)
