I dunno if this is the right section or not, but here goes anyway. Every so often when I attack anyone with my ground troops there will be a few of them that stop attacking and revert to having no mission selected. Is this part of the game? If so what causes it and how can i avoid it? If not, what is it?

i know that, but that isn't what is happening. I can attack say 5 divisions with 25 divisions and if the battle goes on too long all but 10 of my divisions drop out of the battle and have no orders anymore.

Fist this is a game play question, not a tec one.
Secondly, that may happen if you have military control over a country and send there troops to attack.

Sorry, where does one post gameplay problems?

The exact situation is that I, as Canada, attacked some UK and Turkish troops in modern day georgia. I outnumbered them about 4-1 but a few hours into the battle most of my troops apparently gave up. I was only using my own canadian troops. Is this a bug? Or is there maybe a morale thing about attacking a former ally?

If you have game play related questions (as to: why does it work as it works, or why does this or that happen), then the most appropriate forum would be the general forum.

If you have, in your opinion, found a bug, and you have a save game that reliably can demonstrate it, then please submit it as per stickied instructions. Thank you.
