the year 480 AUC was a year of hope, the year our League was created, the year Syracuse defeated Carthage to create a dominant Greek power in Scilly, the year Macedonian infighting and weakness promised a new Greece never again to be under Macedonian oppressors and Rome was a distant trade partner hardly spoken of.

It is 100 since those times were gone, Syracuse lies in rubble, Carthage subdued, Macedon has been taken and Rome lies at our borders, for 20 years we have awaited our destruction.

The Roman leader, Opiter Salvius, scored a great victory against our last ally Thrace, taking all that was left of Macedonia for Rome. Yesterday he paraded through the streets of Rome in triumph having taken a wealth of Greek slaves back to the city. To cheering crowds Opiter, in his Greed, announced himself the ruler of Rome for life.

The Senate fearing for their lives fleed the city, but now led by Opiter's own nephew Tertius Salvius they raise a flag of rebellion in Patavium, proclaiming that they will restore the republic or die trying.

For 20 years we have awaited our destruction, now, as Rome is set ablaze, our Achean League will instead march to liberate Greece and save it from the Romans, we may be bringing a dagger to a sword fight, but we will fight with the determination of Syracuse, the Courage of Carthage and the Strength of Macedon and just maybe, it will be enough.

This was my attempt to put into words how this event felt as I saw it play out in front of me, this is by far my favorite mechanic in Imperator and the reason I like this game, I know this civil war was caused by a decision and I do wish more civil wars like this would appear and not just the one province civil wars you often get in this game.

It is in my opinion the most unique mechanic in this game along with the province flipping that goes hand in hand with civil wars and I think while no other game has anything like it (Save for EU:Rome of course), this will keep me coming back to Imperator even if it won't get any updates this year.
