My game freezes up when tring to save

Auto save would load after failing to save game , but when playing of auto save game frooze up again when tring to auto save. I had a problem before with the game crashing to the desktop, but had that problem fixed by closing programs running in computer tray , and canging avi file to avi_back. I had no problems for a long time now theres this can anyone help me out?
 
What version of the game(publisher whos logo will be on the CD) and patch level are you using?
Do you have any mods installed?

i have statagy first and paradox HOI I am using 1.06 patch ,you think it my have to do with this? and no mods are on it

Make sure the basics are still being used and install the latest patch 106B :

Basics.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

would I have to lose my previous game by loading new patch (i was one year away from victory)? If no other choose thats what ill do. Is 1.06b more bug free? And what about uninstalling would that be nessasarry? I already have avi_back set 16 bit and all background off.
 
Well there is some bug fixes, what was going on in your game between the date the autosave loaded and then when the games was trying to autosave and crashed?

well, before the game crashed during the regular save the first time, the game would freeze up sometimes or crash to desk top. I was just strong enough as ussr to run over Germany in later 1944 (i think).
 
You may want to take a look through the Bug forum to see if they have anything to do with save game crashes, if they do then there maybe a work around where you can edit the save and continue to play.

Also there are actually two autosave files, autosave and autosaveold I think.
So the oldone may still load for you, you could try to play past the point where the game crashes by playing another nation, then switch back. That sometimes works.
Or you could try a manual save every couple of days to try and pinpoint where the problem occurs.

In the bug forum it didnt mention the problem im having but, the old auto save you mentioned is working and is able to save with out crashing. If my game messes up again im going to download 1.06b and probly reinstall hoi.

I was able to continue the game for a month, then on may 1st 1944 it crashed again.. as if maybe something to do with auto save?? I turned auto save off but it seemed to maybe try to save the game. So I guess ill reinstall and download 1.06b.
 
That is too bad, the game must have become corrupted whiched caused the save to crash. Most often cause of something like that is a big take over of provinces.
Good luck with the new patch and happy hunting. :)

thanks you know if i have to redownload 1.06 to get 1.06b? I deleted then reinstalled hoi.
 
I have an avi folder and a avi_back folder.. should i delete the avi folder? also i downloaded 1.06 and was wondering if i had to sent that file somewhere like send it to hoi folders or something you know what i should do?
 
1.06 you just need to run from anywhere you Dled it to.
1.06B needs to be extracted to your HOI folder so it can overwrite the existing files.

Yes you can delete the AVI folder.

Ive been having problems execting downloaded files of the net.. is there a way i can tell my hoi game is upgraded to 1.06b?
 
Don't extract it from the web. Download it like a normal file then extract it from your Harddrive like you would any other file you wanted to unzip or unRAR.
 
Setting them both the same cannot hurt.
But makes sure the 3 things listed in my post #4 of this thread are still being followed.
