increasing pagefile size worked until the most recent update! and now im crashing again and i dont know why. any help would be appreciated!
okay! the original suggestions help slow down the crashes but theyre still happening without fail. ive noticed its sometimes on autosaves? but i cant remember if its everytime or not. thanks for our help so far. i couldnt find exception.log so im sorry if the one i attached isnt right.Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.
If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.
Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log
i dont have anything of signifigance open while playing, except like spotify. and i have increased my paging file and allocated memory before the update, and it worked perfectly fine except ocassional crashing every few hours. im not sure what else to do!I think this is a memory issue. Please expand your Windows paging file maximum size to 32gb
AND exit every other app you can before starting the game.Optional: Increasing the paging file size on Windows computers
On computers that have 8 GB of RAM, the suggested paging file size is 16 GB.www.ibm.com
Does that help?
id like to note, a lot of it is happeing on autosaves i can confirmi dont have anything of signifigance open while playing, except like spotify. and i have increased my paging file and allocated memory before the update, and it worked perfectly fine except ocassional crashing every few hours. im not sure what else to do!
From what I noticed all I could do was double my recommended ram usage on my c and e drives, so about 2900 recommended to about 5800 on both. Assuming this is the same as increasing the paging file, because this is where the instructions your post you sent lead me. And I have done that in the past and it stopped the crashes. Until the update. Maybe I haven't done the right thing! I'm not positive. I'm trying to clear up space on my hard drive and hope it's a space issue? But if it's not i can't guess what else it would be unless doubling my ram WASN'T enough. Thank you so far for your help.Crashing on autosaves is usually either running out of available memory (as the game makes a second copy of everything to put into the file) or an antivirus app getting in the way.
Did you increase the paging file to 32gb or more, as I suggested? I'm not clear from what you've said here!

it seems for the time being my issue has been solved! thank you, its much appreciated. my apologies for what feels like ignorance, i was just following tutorials online for fear of messing something up and they just said double the recommended. im just happy to play the game now! You've set the maximum to 5.8gb on each of two devices, = 11.6gb all up.
That is smaller than you had it before:
= 19.2gb
and that was over 1/3 used up, even without the game running!
I guess you set it on both devices because you are almost out of free space on your boot disk:
Normally it is okay to put some of the paging file on other drives you have, BUT not on a USB device! They are too slow, and if it is ever unplugged I suspect Windows will have a fit.
So we are going to have to free up a LOT of space on C: , and then put the paging file on there exclusively, and make it much bigger.
In File Explorer right click on C: Local Disk in the left column. Go to Properties and hit Disk Cleanup, then Clean Up System Files. Tick all the boxes in that dialog and OK that. This process may take a while.
Once done let's see how much free space you have. If it is over, say, 48gb then set the paging file to be 32gb (32000) on C: only, remove it from E: . If you need to move other stuff from C: to E: that's fine.
Good luck with all that!
