sorry about my last spamming threads, just wasn't sure where to go for the info i wanted.
But this is a serious thread to discuss Byzantium in MyMAP. Things to discuss: What are good strategies? What different ways can you expand? etc.
I'll contribute first, in the first 5 years i saw the best way of expanding was first taking Athens (Attica), and by 1423 I created a stronger alliance with Morea by vassalizing it. For the next five years I tried to maintain a stable income and build up my army for a bigger war, a war that could be either fatal or extremely successful. I was to go to war with Venice, the Pope, Cellaphonia (spelling?), and Tuscany. My first plan before the war was to be more defensive than offensive since I had a limited income. I set up defensive units in my 3 provinces of Bosphorus, Macedonia, and Attica. I then declared war on the alliance. The first offensive strike was to quickly land my troops and siege the 2 provinces of Euboeia (spelling?) and Naxos. After I sieged the islands I quickly put my fleet in a safe province (in fear of losing battles to Venice's superior navy). Shortly after that I sent some of my troops to the weak Cellaphonia's provinces (Epirus and Ionia). While doing all this they enemy would try to take back these sieges but thanks to my high defensive doctrine it was very difficult for them to do so. Now I'm getting points to better my peace resolution with Venice by battles and controlling their's and their alliance's lands. While all this was happening they sieged my ally and took 1 of their two provinces (Archaia, spelling?), which gave me a new land to conquer and land to siege. Soon after, all the lands I sieged were under my control and I have a high piece resolution to get the provinces I want. Venice became entangled in other wars and was soon begging for peace. I took Epirus from Cellaphonia first and Venice still begging offered me the 4 provinces of Euboea, Naxos, Archaia, and even Corfu! I didn't even siege Corfu. I accepted this resolution. Now my Empire was becoming more stable.
The year is now circa 1433. After the war I diploannexed Morea receiving one more province. And soon after that I went back and annexed Cellaphonia (they were out of the Venetian alliance) by force. Another 10 years later I was trying to build up my economy since I sadly had to take 2 loans in my war with the Venetians. I paid off my loans and looked towards a new conquest. To go to war with Genoa to get the one province in Greece of Lesvos. I then went to war with Genoa and quickly took Lesvos. Now I need to think about the Ottoman Empire and what I'm going to do with them... They own mostly all of Turkey and most of the Balkans with an alliance with Bosnia. I need to think of a way to attack, or defend against them properly. What I was thinking was to make an alliance with Hungary and attack the Ottomans together. But I have relations of -150 or less with mostly all Catholic countries. So it looks like I'm going to have to spend a lot of money to take back the Roman lands since it costs about 260 to raise relationships with Hungary, and I have a very undiplomatic king (Demetrios, which is also my name... haha).

Post what you think on what I've done =) what you would do next, or even what you've already done with the Byzantines.

It might help to structure your posts more clearly so that readers will not be discouraged by the solid mass of text in front of them.

Personally I only play Byzantium on the new MyMap, so there will be differences with what you are playing.

My basic strategy is to build my navy up first till i have around 15 galleys so that I can block the straits. The second step would be to build up my armies and keeping my finances healthy.

By the time I have decent finances and the biggest army I can support I will start looking for expansion. Hopefully the Turks will be bogged down in a war against the Hungarians. Block the straits and attack them. Try to battle them in plains with an army consisting mostly of cavalry. If you win you will annihalte their entire army.

If I'm not in a position to take on the Turks I will go for the Venetians and Genoans. Hopping from island to island and hoping to win lots of small naval battles.

Make peace when you get a decent offer or push as far as you can. Repeat this one or two more times and you should have driven the Turks off the Balkans.
After this its just gonna be a tough fight against the Turks in Asia Minor. Crush and Annihalte them as soon as you can. The longer you wait the tougher it'll get. After you've done this crush and annihalte them again and again until nothing is left.
