How will the names be handled?

Will:

The names just be chosen from a list by the game (a la M: TW)

We chose the names from a list

We make up a name

or Something else?

Also, can I give my dynasty a different name? For example, if I want to call it, say, the House of Usher instead of, say, the House of Valois?

I hope we are free to create names. But still, it would be very nice to have a long liste of examples of Medieval names for each country. That way we could be more in-character.

A nice thing also would be that nobles would be given nicknames by the AI according to their deeds. Would King Richard have been the same if he wasn't "Lionheart"? What if William of Normandy had remained "William the Bastard" instead of becoming "William the Conqueror"?

That’s a good idea, especially for the quests, you can go from Hilario to Hilario Finder of the Holy Grail (Or something along that line). It can also go against you, like Hilario the Worthless after losing a string of wars. Being awarded a Nickname for your deeds would be historical as well as add a personal touch to CK.

It's a good idea as long as it's not following the way MTW do it. If you have to retreat once because the enemy have three times as many men as you you become a "Good runner" and lose command points for ever...

I trust it to P/S to avoid this though :)

If you were a Templar and left the battlefield without being outnumbered more than 3-1 you would have gotten more than just a nickname.:)

Anything better than the rank in EU2 could work...

A bit pessimistic about how well you think you can manage? However you could make some cool stories out of that AAR...

It'll likely be the first time I play when I call it the House of Usher. I won't be good at it, yet, so it will likely be the Fall of the House of Usher.

That nickname thing would be nice. "King Robert of England, the"... hmm, how about... "Filthy Stinkin' Rich." I like that sound.

If I understood Sergei correctly in another thread there are some nicknames you can achieve for your monarch, i.e. your suggestion is going to be in the game :D

And I agree that it is a cool idea, and I agree with Havard that it might be difficult for the computer to decide what is your crowning deed ;)

Maybe the 'charisma' attribute (if any) or 'personal prestige' will decide if it is a good event or a bad event that gets to name him. (Tick off the troubadeurs and you'll be William the Rat Bastard after conquering England, bribe them well and you will become 'Lionheart' for eating well and sleeping soundly :p)

And hopefully it will be linked to prestige (the Great, the Brave, the Lionheart) or piety (the Good, the Pious, Saint)

Well at least we don´t have to worry about the william the conqueror part as that was to be already assured at the start of the game.

Now there's an oxymoron for you!:D

Shhh, UD´s spies are evreywhere.

Anyhow I would love to name my houses. One thing that always bugged me in the original Civ for instance was that I was unable to rename cities. Always bothered me a great deal as it lost feel with me. Guess I´m just a stickler for such things.

I've been known to go through the EUII game logs just so that I can rename my armies. I hate having multiple armies and fleets with the same names, and the names always pop up in geographically odd places.
