Ok if after the initial historical characters die I read one of the programmers say the game will generate random children is this still how it will work? Why not let the player name their own children with some sort of pop up screen (For example "Europa 1400: The Guild")? It would make the game a little more personal if the son you gave your namesake too was cheated out of the crown by his jealous brother. Plus it wouls be really funny to have a name like King Pinky the Low self-esteemed... hehe anyway just a thought.

From my understanding this was more or less the way that it would be able to work; when a child is born there will be a pop up screen which will list several possible name choices depending upon the dynasty(if your playing the Normans you will, no doubt, see many "Robert" "William" "George" and so forth while if you are playing the Norwegian royal house expect to see "Skule, Harald, and the like). You will also be able to choose your own name for the child if you so wish.

Alright, if you can't make you're own names, I really hope they include all the royal names for that nation possible. But I liked the idea of giving them my own names. Having a King Yngvar XVIII or something by the end of the game.
Daniel, are you sure the Norwegians will even be in the game as a playable faction?

If moddability is like in usual paradox games then the names of possible rulers will all be contained in a .csv file where you can easily add your own choices. And it might even be(come) possible (HoIstyle) to edit names in-game, if asked for nicely enough.

They were a Christian kingdom in 1066, so it would seem very likely that they will be playable...

I am not Swedish :p .. and that was a Victorian joke (after Eu2 and HoI where Sweden was overpowered, in Victoria it held Norway, causing roars of dissent among Norse players)

Oh, I was worried. Is the Norwegians unplayable in Victoria? Can't you revolt as the parliament?

Nope. The evil Swedes has made Norway an integral part of Sweden along with cores on the Norwegian provinces and Norwegian culture....

WTF! Are you serious? In 1066 and 1187? No, Norway was an independant nation. I would say that in 1187, it was more like Sweden was about to become a part of Denmark, luck served you at Lena and Gestilren. Luck also served you (temporary) when King Håkon V died sonless in 1319...

"Luck"? So when the Swedes beat the Danes and Norwegians at Gestilren and Lena, it was by pure luck? I suppose the outcome had been through skills and might had the battles ended a different way...

Skule Kongsfostre. I don't want to see that name though. It's outright ugly.

We didn't fight at all at Lena (that was the one in 1207/1208 right?), we were too occupied with civil war. We didn't fight against you at Gestrilren (that was the one in 1210 right?), we fought with you. Luck made Sweden get Norway on its side and there was a few thousand troops sent to Swedens aid in that battle. If Norway had been ruled by the Magnus Erlingsson or his descendants instead of Sverres descendant Håkon III, Norway would have sent a few thousand troops to the support of Denmark.
Dråpen som hadde fått begeret til å flyte over - don't know how to say that in English, it just seems impossible...

And, Galleblære, which is a pretty nasty name ;), there has been no king with the name Skule. There was a duke though, who tried to become king and claimed to be a king, but I don't think it would be appropriate to put him in the line of kings when great rulers like Håkon Jarl has not even been recognized.

I know that Lena was an all-Dano-Swedish affair, but I was mistaken on Gestilren, which was a part of our civil war where the Danes supported one side and the Norwegians another. So some Swedes fought against the Norwegians ;) The details weren't important though, I just wanted to not that talking about "luck" is ludicrous.

So some Swedes fought against the Norwegians

Yes, the side that lost :)

If the Sverkers had won though, Sweden would become a Danish vassal, probably not in the interrest of Norway. What a shame that the Kalmar Union swallowed Norway  Those Danes behaved like Austrians in the late 1300's (inherit)...

Can you name your own heirs?

like the title says can you name your own heirs or use the historic name if you want?

Yes - either you name your heirs or you will get to choose a historical name :D

Best we can hope for is probably a historical name (by choice or random) that can be changed during game.
