I was wondering that we could maybe create a scenario about the Napoleonic wars. I know that the dates can't be changed but we could put it in 1796 as a starting date that would be equivalent to 1766 and arrange all the data accordingly.

Maybe it has been discussed before, or is it already in the works or it is a stupid idea; I don't know.

Anyway, give me your impression, and if people are interested we could create a workgroup to do it.

Good idea!

Sounds like music to my ears!
Maybe I'm overenthusiastic as an avid player of Napoleonic board games (of all sorts), but it is an interesting period of time. I guess that the main problem will be to get land military tech levels to show through from the main game. Maybe an extension pack is needed?

land tech

there is certainly so way to accomodate the problem of land tech, giving for exemple advantage to the French at start to reflect the use of column attacks and mixt orders and tune the other nations in a way that they will reach equivalent land tech at the same period they started to use such tactic.

Another solution would be to tweak a bit the leader's value in order to reflect Fire advantage for English and Prussians and shock advantage for the Frenchs.

If you want me, I will be happy to be in your workgroup. :)

I think to put the start date in 1696 and the end date in 1715 and create a specific INC file for this scenario.

And change also the tech files.

ready to help u too

But is there a way for create some new tech ?

It was often said, that making a Napoleonic scenario wouldn´t be feasible with the EU engine.... I never shared that opinion. :) Have fun, Crusader and team!

Hartmann

P.S. I think You should prepare not only one scenario, but a bundle of scenarios for various keysituations ....

help is here - if needed

I have got to say that although I do like editing games I havn't done much with EU yet, but on a different note - if you want any information on the period (army sizes, province populations/ownership, flags, leader names / capabilities etc) than I could help a lot.

I could also be of help with the technology tweaking/naming...

I also have economic information on the period (use of CoT's etc)

If you would like my help here - please e-mail me

teamwork

hello everybody, Thanks Hartmann

everyone's infos and ideas will be welcome, let's do it in teamwork and I hope the result will be interesting, I'm actually getting infos on the way to modify the files.

but I hve a first question for you:

When do you think we should start and end the game ?
(1796, 1799, 1804, 1805 ?) to (1814, 1815, 1821 ?)

Crusader

The problem is France

If we start in 1805 France will be the centre of the game , with England tring to backup a strong coalition , it will be a very good game played by humans ( like every Empires in Arms game ) but quite weak if played in solitaire since the AI players will not follow an anti-frech posture .
If we start in 1796 the game will be a bit more open , as the french will face total war and the risk to lose everything , so i think both scenrios must be made , the first one for his multiplayer value and the second for the solitarie .

i think we whould give 3 start years :

1792, cause that's the beginning of the war

1799, cause that's the beginning of Napoleon era as great politician

and 1805 too, but the game would be shorter

and to end the game, I would say 1817, to have a 25-years scenario in its totallity

tech files looks are we can add new lines, no ? someone have ideas about it ? for crusader, the fact is that great nations chould have developped all techsexcept the last one of each tech. and so, taht would give them too much money and a really big inflation.
there's a way to correct it, but tht's an ugly way : inflation and money lost events

for leaders, that won't be too difficult to find leaders for each nations, with the number of books which have been written about that period.

could Hartmann or Doom dark create a 'sticky' threads for that project ? that'll be such a good thing, to be easily see, and so to remember us to work on it :)

1792 wouldn be bet to start, because France strugled durning this period, I think it would a real challenge for the human player to build up the country while fighting Austria, Pidemont (1793) Spain, Holland and England. Iknow a fair bit about the nations of that time so if you ned naything, you need but ask :)

I think our best bets would be a start in

1792 - France literally 'at-war' with europe - goal to hang on untill 1820.

1804 - Beginning with Napoleons crowning as Emperor of the French (this way we get the build up to the austerlitz campaign as well) - goal to hang on until 1820.

1812 - French Invasion of Russia (would you attack Russia or try and invade England again - maybe go on a crucade against the Turks?) - goal to hang on until 1820.

This way we get huge scope for single player and multi-player games...

So which years ?

First thanks to Hartmann

Secondly, the 1792 scenario should used some events like the revolts in France

lets's resume the date proposed

START ( only 3 years to be choosen )

1792
1796
1799
1804
1805
1812

END ( 1 year to be choosen )

1814
1815
1817
1820
1821

let's vote: please just post the 4 years you'd prefer to play,

1792, 04, 12 and ends @ 1817

EiA should be a good reference source for leader/general ratings and initial army dispositions.

We need co-ordination

hows about we make ourselves a forum on ezboard to discuss the project and keep ourselves updated?

It would make the whole process a whole lot easier (and people could pop along to view our progress...)

we could also post the files up on the forum, edit them - discuss changes more easily than by e-mail...
