Gameplay Tips

I'd like to know if any other shiptypes than BB's are useful. Destroyers to destroy subs, but are subs effective in this mod and so, should use direct my IC's against or for them? And what about cruisers, they seem pretty much useless(Well maybe shorter build time and less IC cost, to destroy shippings?)

And another logical question is, how useful are airforces?

And combining these all, what are useful units, how to use these units. What to research and why? Seems that so much has changed. Could you, as more experienced players, give some good tips general ones ofr newbies and advanced one for the more veteran players.

Also I'd like to say thanks to the developers of this mod for great a installation guide, didn't have any problems.

If you're planning to attack the enemy fleet head-on, then battleships are more likely to survive a battle and inflict damage than an equal value of cruisers. (Roughly, you'll get two cruisers for the cost of one battleship). However, a large number of cruisers lets you either raid commerce throughout the world, or defend your convoys against enemy raiders - so they're also useful. There's also the fact that it's easy to pop out a new cruiser or two every so often, but building battleships ties up a large proportion of your ICs for two years.

Destroyers, I think, are not so useful. For one thing, they're low in range until you develop the better models. However, you shouldn't neglect building convoy escorts if you're the Entente.

Early submarines are not as good as in basic HoI - they tend to get killed quickly if caught by enemy warships. More advanced ones are more effective.

It's a similar story with air forces. Early planes are all but useless, and it takes a long time to develop an effective strike force. However, later in the game a few groups of three bombers each led by experienced air leaders can really turn the balance of a combat, or wipe out a retreating enemy force. Airships, in my own experience, are less useful unless long range is a factor - being able to bomb units in France from the USA (or vice-versa) can be handy some times. Against the AI you're unlikely to need fighters since (unfortunately) the computer powers tend not to develop air technology much. MP games may be a different story.

As Germany I figured out the need for cruisers, they are on both sides of africa (both have 2 groups of 3) and also sent few to ensure my presence in China. I managed to beat french and russian fleets badly with my starting forces (I used 6 or so bb's with few destroyers). Also the shore bombardment is great, I brought my whole BB fleet to coast of Memel and when enemy attack they got -76% eff  It was a long, but easy battle.

Battle of Ostoleka wasn't so easy, I don't know how many months it lasted, but I had to pull out my forces. Now I brought some reinforcements to defeat them.

Is 1914 the magical year in TGW? The war always starts there. I got into war with France and Russia, but I didn't implement the Schlieffen Plan(took the DI hit) and such I'm yet to be dowed by UK. How far into Russia must I proceed to defeat them all the way to Vladivostok? Are all defeats done by events and such there would be no need for annexications? And as last, is gas effective?

To defeat Russia you can either hold your ground to the cotover revolution (I think)
Or you can try and reach moscow, southern finland and the caucasus before 1917...

There is absolutely no need to capture Vladivostok whatsoever.

It's 1914 and if the offensive keeps going this well, I think I'll make it before 1917
Thanks for the advice and great mod. It's nice that Germany can be a part of the naval race, it has to be a part of it if she wants to hold her colonies.

Here´s what you have to control:

Warsaw
St Petersburg
Kiev
Moscow
Tsaritsyn (Stalingrad)
Odessa
Grozhny
Ryazan
Frankfurt

And don´t be sad if the russian revolution comes before you can defeat them - a pretty similar peace treaty will be drawn up then.

let's make a hypothetical scenario where I would have all of Russia but one or two required provinces. And now the Revolution will come. I will keep the provinces which I now have, right? And the event won't give some of the provinces I've conquered, but not annexed, to the commies(?)

When the revolution comes, all of Russia turns into Soviet Russia. It is only aftr the peace treaty that white russia and "Russian federation" pops up.

No worry of that, Managed to get the event. The long wait before the treaty finally setting in was nerve wrecking, especially when I tried to clean the few french units from russia(I thought that maybe te event would fire when all foreing forces had left Russian soil). Then I got the lcosed train event, but I refused it and after a while I got my puppets and Mother Russia out of the Entente.

What would've happened if the revolution would've triggered AFTER the peace event, would I still have got the puppets?

I am not sure actually.

I think that we have a possible bug here. Perhaps the tsarist defeat event would sleep the revolution? Allenby?

Update on naval.

The destroyers have their uses now that they are upgraded. They are cheap and fast to build. Great for destroying some subs sneaking into your shipping lines. Also they have a nice range so they can defend bigger ships against subs.

Cruises have an awesome range, and fast. While it takes a year to build, they are faster and cheaper to build. Perfect for raids on enemy shipping lanes, and even if you lose few it won't hurt even nearly as much as losing a battleship/cruiser.

Battleships/cruisers are pretty much self explanatory. Best in ship to ship battles.

At least, that is what I've gathered after upping all building techs (expect the last BB). Ersatz Yorck (any idea where that name is from?) seems to be pretty much equal to Bayern, a bit faster and a bit worse in sea defence.

And to clarify my post, I mean what would've happened if the revolution would've happened between the peace treaty and the creation of puppet states.

Ersatz Yorck was the development name giving to the ship that was to replace the sunk battleship Yorck.

It then received a new name.

IIRC the germans would only name a ship on commisioning, which makes it a bit hard to decide what should be the name of a ship which wasn't completed.

Is it normal for UK to bunch the bulk of RN into one province. In my and one of my friends game they did so... They attacked out with 175 ships against my 30 old models (got in the beginning of scenario) or so, I destroyed about 120 of them and lost 10 light ships. Now, at least in my opinion, this is just stupid. Could there be anything done to make the brits use their navy more effectively?

As smaller nations with mediocre navies(Austria-Hungary, Russia) I just use their big ships to stop transports arriving from afar(Those damn japanese! They had more divisions in France than the french!)
