Hello to all eu1ers. :)

Currently, i dont have eu1, but i remember seeing the old main menu... and i liked it. Could someone do me the favor of uploading the main menu screen, without any button (only the background image), in imageshack? Please?

Thanks.

You'd be better off looking for screenshots or the like. It is probably copyrighted art. Or you could buy EU1 (download for a dollar at gamersgate) and see if you can find the picture there ;)

Yes, i thought it would be most likely copyrighted... I searched google for it, and all i found was a very little picture of the menu. :(

I thought of downloading from gamersgate as well, but how big is the file i must download? 300-400mbs? less?

If I remember correctly it is 130Mb. :)

I have gotten eu1.

However i got some questions... If i decide to use, for example, the eu1 menu screen, in a mod i am currently producing in eu2, would this create me any problem?

What kind of problems? Issues of crashing and looking silly or legal issues?

When it comes to legality.. wasn't that page a painting? Perhaps you can find an open source variant of the original one somewhere?

Yes, i am refering to legality. As i do not wish any problem on the future just because i wanted to use a picture, i would like to know before hand.

Sorry, it was as I suspected - the image in the shape it is in the game is copyrighted and you can't use it for public distribution - if you are going to upload it somewhere you will have to find a reasonable facsimile somewhere else.

Nah, no problem.

But just another doubt - was this image created specificaly for eu1 or did it already exist? If it did exist, what was its name?

Hello Burning, this is the legal standing: You cant
a copyrighted material as your own, however, you can use any publicly available material as long as you
acknowledge
that the material is copyrighted and
unequivocaly
state who the actual owner of the material is. In other words you can use the image as long as you mention below the image that the copyright is vested solely with Paradox.

Ah, i see. If what you speak is true (which i believe it is), then there is no problem after all. I am really thankful for that post of yours Ironluca.

Thanks.

That would apply if you are doing it as
a commentary, a parody, a news report, for research or for educational purposes.
That means that using short and non-vital sections of the material to excersize your rights of free speech is allowed.

In no other way can you use copyrighted material without asking permission of the copyright holding. However the legal penalties are based upon potential monetary loss for the company in question, which would at the moment seem to be at most $1 per download of your mod. So forum privileges is probably the only thing you would put at risk in this case.

As for Ironluca, I will point out that art that you pay to get can never be considered to be publicly available. And even if you don't pay for it, the material is still copyrighted. Your source might have gotten permission to distribute the material for free, but that does in no way allow you to follow up and redistribute it. (Apart from under the limitations of my quote above)
