I like it that children in Deus Vult develop their stats over time, making you have to gauge who will be worth setting aside to develop as an heir, as well as prevents a kid from running a fief as efficiently as he would as adult.

However, it seems to me that they get on average way too good stats, whereby the world will after a few generations of gameplay be filled with far more competent people than in any of the starting setups. In my current game, I've almost always found officeholders with 15+ in their relevant stat to fill my administration. Kind of breaks some aspects of the game when you can almost always rely on having competent people at the helm of your realm.

Is there any way to nerf child stat development? Are the values that would have to be tweaked found in any of the game text files? Has any mod been made to that effect?

Check out DVIP :) .... jordarkelf implemented some harsh stat reductions for children, so you wouldn't get those high stats for everyone.

I think this is more a problem with it being too easy to marry that genius girl from Russia when you're the King of Nevarra.

In DV stats are not inherited ... so marriage doesn't matter how the kids turn out ... except for health and fertility.

I was already eyeballing DVIP, didn't see that particular change mentioned anywhere. Goody, I'll start using DVIP. Would my current 2.1beta savegame be playable post DVIP?

I know, I meant that it is too easy to get good advisors.

DVIP does a whole lot of stuff, so there's probably some other cool things you don't know about. This particular cool thing is an event. When kids get too smart it automatically knocks them down a peg or two, and tells you "A child's abilities have declined dramatically." It's not an elegant fix, but it's the only one we've found that works.

It'll be playable. It might get weird, tho. DVIP changes some titles, tho. So don't be surprised if the Republic of Pisa morphs into the Republic of Basra or something.

I'd assume Jord played with traits too. It'll still be playable if he did, it's just that all your people with Intestinal Worms will magically turn into homosexuals.

Note that after 30 or so years of gameplay the traits will be mostly fixed, as most characters will have gotten their traits from DVIP events. The title situation may still be weird, but it won't be that much weirder then a normal game of CK.
