Meine Herren,

Interested in Blood Royale? Then let us play DIPLOMACY Royale!
Hi everyone!
You all seem to be interested in Blood Royale. Personally, I've failed finding a copy, but I'm acquainted with a very close offspring - Diplomacy Royale. This is a variant of the classic Avalon Hill boargame that ingeniously marries both games concepts.
For those not familiar with Diplomacy, the game sports a very simple combat system without any dice luck involved. In its purity it's often compared to chess. The real challenge is negotiating with other powers, however, agreements cannot be enforced through game mechanics. Betrayal is always rife...
Dip Royale changes this quite a bit. Each power has a corresponding dynasty. Naturally for procreation purposes members of such dynasties must be married off once they reach an eligible age. Marriage writs are signed as binding contracts between both parties and are enforced by the GM throughout the marriage. So, if you included a non-agression pact (simplest clause), once one member of that marriage dies you can commence attacking that power. Thus, you can ensure yourself from betrayal.
Members of a dynasty have other values, stamina (influences life span, leadership (for males) or guile (for women), influencing the strength of commanded armies. Male members will demand a title, giving them control of territories and armies belonging to the crown.
As in Blood, claims to other titles can pass to other dynasties.
Furhter there is the option for a career in the clergy (up to becoming a pope), which offers lots of options.
Well, I cannot go into all the detail. The following article gives a better overview of the game:

The rules (and more) can be found here:
http://w1.132.telia.com/~u13206915/ROYALE.htm
The game can be played on any Diplomacy map, but a variant set in 1600 best fits dynastic politics.
Interested? Me too. To date my experience with the game is rather minimal, but I would be happy to GM a play-by-email-game for those interested. Not knowing regular Diplomacy shouldn't be too much a problem although you'd face a steep learning curve. But addiction is guaranteed!
So if you want to play, write to charlesf@web.de ! Comments or questions are always welcome.
