Ace proposal : Heinrich Severloh.

Gameplay : 352nd Div => Infantry => Phase A => ("s-MG 42" 2 Stars) x2 (Severloh being the 1st card)

History : Heirich Severloh was a soldier in the 352nd ID who became famous/infamous when he published his memoir "WN 62 – Erinnerungen an Omaha Beach Normandie, 6. Juni 1944". In this book he claimed to have fired 13 500 rounds with his MG 42 in a foxhole at Widerstandsnest 62, Omaha Beach . He is accounted for 2 000 casualties, but it is considered an exaggerated claim. He was referred as the "Beast of Omaha" from the veterans of D-Day landings. Btw he survived it and was taken as a POW on June 7th.

How would he count as an ace? He was nothing more then the MG operator, it's like saying the gunner of Wittmans tank was an ace or countless WW1 MG nests were aces.
He really did nothing more the pull the trigger, change barrel and fire his rifle when all his barrel would overheat.
Thats something every MG operator would do, he just happend to be in the best position to shoot at the Americans, NOT because of his skill, NOT because of his choosing of a superior positioning and NOT because of his courage/boldness.
He was nothing more then a poor little gear in a terrible Meatgrinding machine.
Saying someone is an ace because he killed countless humans is just wrong.

IMO an ace needs to be either a pilot, tank commander or Squad leader.
A pilot needs all his skill to survive and win his airbattle, a tank commander can influence an entire battle if he positions himself in a superior position and a squadleader can win the day with a single bold attack.
Or was the crew of the enola gay an ace crew thanks to all their kills?

Not sure every MG operator would stay firing relentlessly for 9 hours, till the end in fact, in such a desperate situation.

??? I don't really get why ordinary GI doesn't deserve some recognition even though he was "just" doing his work. He lived through horrors of war and I doubt the thought of all those lives he had taken away made his life any easier.

Moreover, he was absolutely not what he pretented to be.
He reported bullshit and some "historians" trusted him.
Seriously....

I would be very interested in learning more on that. Could you provide a source please.

Source about what?

2000 casualties with a single MG is just a ridiculous figure as it matches the total amount of casualties on Omaha Beach for June 6th (read Balkowski, Omaha Beach)

Severloh's memoir must be read with caution as it is most of the ime pure fantasy. No source needed.

Oh, right.

I am pretty sure that he gave 2000 as a rhetorical figure, not to claim anything as I doubt he was counting bodies on the beach.

Every memoir is subjective and should be approached with caution. It's just when you said that he mislead people, I thought there was more story in it.
