Hello,

I was just wondering how hard it would be to create a decision/event for Austria in the 1933 scenario. Here's what I wanted to shoot for/idea: In the 1930s Otto Habsburg (the supposed legitimate ruler of the Austrian Empire) fought against nationalism before being run out of the country by the Nazis in 1938. He worked to try an restore the monarcy and on the Day of Decision as the scenario is called...what if Otto had succeeded in reestablishing the monarchy? It could be an event that had an ai chance of 0% so that it would not affect a normal axis v. allies game and only the human player who was playing Austria could choose and it could come with a rather large dissent hit.

Here's the problem: I have virutally no event creating experience whatsoever. I intend to dig into the kaiserreich files later tonight and see if I can take an event there and convert it to a DH full decision that not only changes the government but also changes the flag of Austria and adds the old austrian cores back to the empire. I know that I'll have to add some ministers/pics and change the revolt.txt to include the cores/changeflag. Does anyone have any ideas or advice on what to do...This is going to be a trial and error method on my part (much of which all my HOI modding has been) and for my personal enjoyment in playing the game. However if anyone wants to help I'd appreciate it very mucho :)

I seem to recall in 1935 or so Mussolini tried to get Otto placed back on the throne, solely to keep Anchuluss from becoming a reality. Hitler wasn't thrilled at all about this, but it was France and Britain who shot down the effort because they didn't want Mussolini expanding his presence, or even the remote possibility of restored Hapsburg Empire.

this could be interesting. i've always thought that there should be a way for austria to bargain with hitler over the restoration of the empire in return for an alliance. Perhaps the habsburgs could convince mussolini to back them in diplomatic discussions and for hitler to establish a nazi parliament while the habsburgs maintain austria. This would be ahistorical and i very much doubt hitler would ever accept such a thing. Maybe an alternative history scenario could be made where hitler was crushed in 1936 when he tried to remilitarise the rhineland and then the habsburgs could return in that :D

If Hitler tried to support a restored Hapsburg empire, France and Britain would have kittens and Mussolini would jump into the allied camp very quickly.

Why, in God's name, would Hitler's Germany, led by a man who personally despised the Habsburgs and everything they stood for, support an independent monarchy in a country they had a territorial claim on?

It's going to have to be a rather complicated event chain, IMO. There was a chance of this occurring OTL. Chancellor Dollfuss and the Austrians in general did enter discussions with the Italians about maintaining their own independence from Germany (via a Habsburg restoration), as well as preliminary alliance talks with Hungary and Czecho-Slovakia. Ultimately, nothing came of it because: 1) Dollfuss was assassinated; and 2) the Italians decided they would much rather ally with a strong nation, Germany, than continue maintaining a series of clients in opposition to Germany.

Thus, it's not impossible for a restoration to occur, though it'd likely have occured around 1935 or so, rather than later, provided the above criteria was fulfilled. The resulting state would, essentially, be an Italian client (allied with Italy, perhaps ... certainly not a puppet). Hungary and Czecho-Slovakia could possibly rejoin it, on certain conditions (in any case, the resulting state would be a far looser union than the Austro-Hungarian empire ever was, although likely without the disastrous institutions of dualism or, God forbid, trialism). Hungary is more likely to join than the Czecho-Slovaks, they did have a coup attempting to restore the Habsburgs come very close to succeeding OTL.

I could see the restored Habsburgs and Italy splitting Yugoslavia between them, with Italy taking most of the coast, while the Austrians gain Croatia and Bosnia.

I suppose there might be an option for Austria to backstab Italy and go for it's former Italian territories (Trieste, Fiume, Istria and a couple of others), but only if Germany is a non-factor and the Austrians manage to get a rapport going with France and the UK (they were ambivalent OTL, with France preferring a Habsburg Austria to the Anschluss, mainly because strengthening Germany was the one thing France didn't want).

Devs already said they're not adding Restoration of the Habsburgs but maybe you guys can convince them.
