I'm a bit surprised nobody pointed out the new design of the cover art.

Darker with some action and a much less twinky blonde guy.

Ah, he grown. Nice change.

Yeah, I'm really unimpressed by the change... That being said, though, who cares what the cover art looks like? I'll probably just download it from GamersGate anyway!

I prefer the original. I never agreed with the idea that just because the game takes place in the past all the characters should look like grimy tramps.

Agreed

As the game will be focused on characters, we should see his face - I think that's behind the choice him not wearing a helmet.

Besides, he's a hero, so he don't need one.

I certainly do :D ... since I make game icons out of the cover art ... so the better it looks, the better my icon will eventually look :)

I do believe that things were a bit more "gritty" back then, and that none of the leading crusaders looked anything like young Ivanhoe :)

And another thing... I'm almost certain that the modern (Nordic) face type and regular facial expression are also a conscious conceptual choice from developer. This guy is intended to look like as an ordinary PC gamer who have sucked in and has fully dived into a wonderful RPG world by his imagination. You're somewhat expected to identify yourself with him. At least that's my guess about a thought behind this modern boyish look. (I suspect that if Paradox would have seriously wanted an authentic "medieval look" in the cover art they would have succeeded better than this).

As this is CK2 we are talking about here, he is probably a cruel and arbitrary if valorous and reckless jerk. Our "hero" is probably a future incestuous rapist also.

And that's what the game has to be about! :) Power, intrigue, corruption.

Better than looking like clean-cut Hollywood leading men

I just wish he wasn't looking straight at me...

I decided to try my hand at making a little less "cutesy" game icon for CK2 ... this is result :)

I don't think it is very historically accurate though :)

Is that an enormous battle axe on his back or a very weirdly shaped sheild? If its a battle axe, how could anyone even lift it, let alone fight with it? Either way, whats holding it up? There doesn't seem to be a strap or anything...
