New model preview: Mistral class amphibious assault ship

While France is not at this time a part of the NWAC campaigns, one of its newest and most powerful units are: The Mistral class amphibious assault ship. The two existing ships of the class are in use by the French navy, the Russian navy has ordered two ships with the option of adding two more.



One such ship can carry an entire tank battalion, and accommodates up to 35 light helicopters.

The ship has limited offensive capabilities for your typical operations in Naval War, however, escorting or denying an amphibious landing force is one of the primary tasks of any navy, also in this game.

Russia will buy 4 Mistrals. The last 2 will be built in Russia.
About the names, there is absoloutly no clue about what they will be called. But you could take some from recently decommisioned units. Thats as close as you will get.

BTW the Russian Mistral will carry 8 Ka-52 and 8 Ka-27/29 and will be more heavily armed than its French version (more CIWS).

I can't see why not. We'll not have assault helos in the game at launch, though.

JonH, what is the point in heli carrier if there is no on land missions in the game? Many cruisers have heli on the board for enemy subs but heli carriers are mostly for ground operations. Am I right?

Perhaps anti torpedo mortars, as well something for planes, electronic countermeasures for them both...

You can't please all of the people all of the time, it's harmless humour. Unless his post CAUSED Libyans to be refugees, I think we're fine.

Yes, we do have chaff, flares, torp decoys, jamming and other countermeasures and possibly more.
