So to create a new nation, you need..

\common countries.txt
\common\countries\ countryname.txt
\history\countries code.txt

Do you need the history entry if the country is formed by revolters (or by event?) only?

Also, what determines whether peasant scum-type rebels form a breakaway nation? I don't think I've noticed it happen in the game (though I may be wrong) - is it already coded or would it require events?

Thanks in advance!!

Not sure, but it would be a good idea anyway, as that does define what government they should have. As well as culture and religion.

If they can form by rebellion, the only reason they generally don't is that the rebellions are always crushed quickly. In order to declare independence, if it is at all possible, I'm fairly certain that the province must be a core for that nation. So events may not be strictly necessary, but depending on what one wants they may or may not be a good idea anyway (personally I haven't still gotten around to but am planning events for most Anatolian and Caucasian nations to appear or reappear during the proper circumstances).

So, what I need to do to get nations forming by revolt is to add cores for the relevant nations to the province history files, rather like this?

Code:
owner = ROM
controller = ROM
add_core = ROM
add_core = ETR
capital = "Tarquinia"
culture = etruscan
religion = roman_pantheon

And then, presumably, I could write an event saying that if province 90 (Etruria) no longer had Etruscan culture, then ETR (Etrurian nation) would lose the core on the province.

The extra nations I was thinking of adding included...

Etruria

Tripolis: Oea, Sabratha, Leptis Magna

Canaan/Phoenicia: Phoenicia, Damascus, CoeleSyria

Cilicia

Of course all this is leaving out the graphics files.

Anyone know what flagfiles.dds does?

Same as EU3; archives all of the flags for all nations. No need to change it; it automatically regenerates itself when you add flags.
