I hope CK3 will have a completely overhauled tech advancement system from CK2. Tech advancement in CK2 is IMO the worst part of the game because of how simplistic it is, and I feel like every one of my playthroughs I do it nearly exactly the same way because of the way the game's mechanics funnel you into building everything up evenly instead of specializing.

I'd much prefer to have a research system similar to EU3's, where you can invest in certain categories to advance more quickly towards what you're interested in.

Technology would best be removed entirely, I think, and merged with laws and other similar mechanics. Things like military advances might be given a gradual automotic increase over time, but more substantial bonuses would be better determined by the military traits of a marshal or the king. Economic technology should rather be determined by trade, the strength of the economy, the skill of the steward, and the only limit for buildings being one's ability to afford it. The same can be said for culture: rather than blanket opinion bonuses, let those be based on the king's policies and relations with his subjects.

Honestly, I'm not sure I can point to a single legit incident in my entire time playing this game where a technology imbalance was impactful in any way on a game's outcome beyond slightly delaying when I got a few buildings. So not only was it dull and simplistic, it was bordering on the meaningless for me.

Revamping tech is the absolute no. 1 on my list of things that need to be done on CK3, especially considering the technological gains in the medieval years.

Siege tech is the one thing I consistently try to stay ahead in because it's pretty much the only place where being ahead of other countries gives you an edge. Otherwise, yeah, it's mainly just preventing me from building stuff.

You often can't tell, but maxxing the various + damage techs can do some work.
What I want is the use of early gunpowder siege weapons.

It's not under-developed, but I agree it is severly under communicated. As far as I know, there is no way to look up tactics in game
There kind of is, in that if you pause during a battle you can look at a tooltip about whatever tactic is currently being deployed, but yeah, it isn't exactly user-friendly.

The real problem is there's no indication that Couched Lance occurs in Frankish or German culture generals, with a HC ratio of etc. etc. etc.

CK3 doesn't need a tech system. The current system works fine for representing technological advancement in this period. It's better than the nonsense that is EU4's and Imperator's tech systems.

That's the way it should work. CK isn't civ. Tech shouldn't be part of the strategy. And technological advancement being on a realm level is nonsense.

Then don't have a tech system.

I hope that the perks tree which devs shown on one of screenshots is actually not personal, but dynastic. This way it will become great replacement of tech system from CK2. Since the game is focused on feudal life and role-playing, it's will be better to represent technical advancement not as science, technology and other modern terms for it, but as bunch of personal knowledge, tricks, "lifehacks", etc. collected by the dynasty through generations.

This dynastic perks will also fix the problem of CK2 where your technical advancement is tied to your capital - so if change the capital, you have to restart your development from the scratch. But perks will not have physical location, and will remain on the same level as long as dynasty lives.

On contrary, personal perks tree would become repetitive and boring for player after several generations.

They did say that tech is somehow tied to characters rather than titles or locations, so the moving capital shouldn't be a problem anymore at least.

So, ah, are we going to get any info from the Devs at any time in the near future? Even just a "we'll be sharing information on such and such a date." Given all the topics we're discussing, it'd be nice to get some engagement.

Edit: Damn, thought I posted this in the announcement thread.
