Just finished the sprite of Iowa class battleship to replace the US BB. I don't really like the sprite :( . It felt sandwiched and flat, but that's exactly how the BB would like from a distance, as the IOWA is massively long and have to be resized alot just to fit. Careful observers might even notice that I've cut down the Hull length a lot, and it still felt flat. The fact is the Iowa doesn't have really tall poles either, which added to the 2-D feel. Anyway here it is:

NOTE: ALL U.S NAVY SPRITES WILL BE LISTED HERE:

Looks nice, although I understand your feeling. Maybe you should make it a tad bit longer then. Or invent some poles to make it look less 2D... Of course, if you find realism more important, you should stick to this

How about tilting it a bit? It feels like being straight over it rather than viewing it from an angle.

probably redo it. The sprite looks like a Missouri run over by a car, which is not good.:) As for tilting it, well it's already tilted the correct way (the same as my other BB) but since it's so long the depth kinda sinks. The remix one, though not necessarily historical, looks much better!

I will never get tired of saying GOOD Work Sekinoss :)

A L1 US battleship would look like a WW1 type hull... ie, short fat and round...

WW1 battleships all looked very similar, so probably a single generic L1 battleship sprite would suffice.

The Arizona perhaps best represents L1 US battleships;

They became sleek later in the war.

The Royal Navy started with similar approach to France for L1, which was to base turrets at fore of ship.

Just for infor, the Italian ANDREA DORIA is a WW1 hull comleted in 1913

I was suggesting that for the Italians, their VITTORIO VENETO calss hulls might be better as these were laid down between 1937 and 1940

For reference I suggest checking this site as it includes side view, and plan view for nearly all major battleships.

This was what I was refering to about the Italian Navy, the Curiser and BB are currently WW1 hulls, and the Italian Navy made great efforts to modernise. Their later ships had the red stripes on the fore-deck, like the current destroyer sprite.

And my two cents on the new Iowa BB - much better, after all it's only a game, so making the bits stick up more to help identify it was a good move.

Excellent work once again Sekinoss... hope these ship designs help you.

Basically I think a pre-war WW1 style hull, then the WW2 sleek hull style would do for most navies?

Axis & Allies...

If anyone has Axis and Allies Europe & Pacific...

If you look at the little models for the BB hulls, the British and Russian have classic pre-war WW1 hulls, whilst the US, Japanese and German counters have the sleek WW2 era hulls.

BTW - I love that game, it's simple and unhistoic, but it's a perfect simple game to trash my younger brother at!

To KonigMaximilian:
yes I've got your panther and I'll look on to it soon.

To N!ghtY:
Are you sure you want to use my first Iowa at all? I use the 3D model to make the second one (with some mods) so basically the same ship. And the first one looks like a sandwiched battleship.

At well over 900 pages it is a monster read. However, no other book gives such an excellent account of the pre-war years, and the build up to the war. Once the war begins it goes into good detail about each major campaign from the strategic perspective. The chapter about the British dilema of 3 wars all at once with Japan in the East, Italy in the Med and Germany in Europe is fantasitc. This book every time has me rushing to dig out Advanced Third Reich, Axis or Allies or even HOI...

I wish I could go back and do my War Studies degree all over again!

Seki, Romanian Marines could be effectively done by taking the Mountain Infantry and coulouring it a light blue.
