I feel like a major moron on this one. I cannot figure out how to purchase Military Units. Whether I play the Grand Campaign or the Tutorial, I will click on the Barracks Tent for a province which shows the 3 types of units. I try to click on the unit type or even the up/down arrows below the unit types and I still can't purchase units.

I have the same problem with naval units. I'll enter the shipyard and try to click on one of the 3 unit types and I still can't purchase units.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance

After you have moved the yellow arrows, you have to click the OK button to actually purchase the units. Some possibilities for your problem could be, :-

1) You are managing to buy the units but havn't realised it yet. The units won't just appear, a blacksmith like person will appear in the province hammering away for a few months and only when he has finished will the unit appear.

2) you have no manpower, there is a little icon, i think its second from the right on the top bar, next to your money, this is how many men you have available to build. If this is at nil then you can't build any troops at the moment. Wait a few months until this goes up.

3) You have no money, the ok button will 'grey out' if you try to order more troops than you can afford.

4) If a province income is too low, you can't build troops, but i think the game won't let you into the conscription tent if thats the case.

5) You are trying to buy units you don't have the tech for. Most contries can't build Artillery or warships right at the start of the game. Try building inf or troop ships to see if that works. If that is the case then put money into military tech to increase it until you can build all units.

You click on the down arrows beneath the type you require.
The numbers will change from 0 to how many you have selected. When you have enough complete the sale. You will not get the units right away - it takes time to recruit and outfit them.

Which caught me out at first. The down arrow to make the number go up? Yeah, right.

Also, in the tutorial you're only allowed to purchase units when the tutorial tells you to purchase units. It's very restrictive, since its only purpose is to show exactly how parts of the game work. When it's working on a non-military part of the game it won't let you build anything.

In early Grand Campaigns, the problem is most likely manpower. (The number to the right of your treasury total - you can only build this many thousand troops, or 10 times this number of cannon, subject to each province's individual recruiting limit.)

It's because you're transfering them from your available pool, just as if you were transfering men from one army to another. :)
