I purchased the newly released version of EU 4 days ago. Great game. Paradox, you have now vaulted to the top of my list of favorite game makers.

I have a couple of questions:

1) I've noted that there is already at least one existing patch (1.07?), with a new one due out shortly (1.08?). Does the newly released American version I just purchased include the prior patches, or do I need to download one or more of them?

2) I've spent most of my game playing time thus far on Fantasia, which does not require Conquistadors/Explorers. I then started a game as England in the GC. I've read in the FAQ's that they show up randomly. Will I know them when I see them? I think I missed one (Cabot), who died a wasted (and short) life in port. When the game window informed me of his existence, I naturally checked him out. I saw him described as some sort of 'Admiral', but I saw nothing to tell me he was an explorer. Was he? Do more come along randomly? Is there an easy way to keep track of them?

Any help would be appreciated. You guys write some excellent posts, and if I've overlooked the answers to these questions having been previously given elsewhere, I apologize. Thanks.

Explorers have a symbol to the right of their name. For naval leaders, it looks like a sextent, for conquistadors, like an old style helmet.

When use get one, use him! They only last a short time (in game terms).

How y'all doin'? ;p

well, to see if you have an explorer, look beside his name you'll have a little sextant.

For conquistador, you'll have a conquistador helmet.

As for the frequency of explorer and conquistador, it depends on tons of things. the FAQ would answer that better than I would. But you kind of get some when it is historically appropriate (cabot in the late 1490s, etc..)

cheers

1) Each patch includes changes from all previous ones. So you would only need to download the latest one even if the US version wasn't already at 1.07c.

2) Nations with historical explorers and conquistadors receive their historical ones in addition to ones that appear through random events. You can set the game messages so that a window pops up each time a leader appears and then check out that leader. Explorers have a sextant symbol by which they can be identified.

Thanks

Thanks guys! I feel stupid after learning how simple the explorer thing really is.

Here's one that may be a bug. I noticed that if I spend down to near zero early in the year and then set my budget income to a negative number (to keep inflation down), my ducats stay at a small positive figure throughout the year. I thought I had read that I would be forced to take out a loan in that circumstance. This appears to be a built in cheat (lower inflation, while not losing money). In the early years of the campaign, this provides an unintended advantage.

Again, this is truly a great game -- far better than the other civ games I've played.

'Ya'll' are great ;).
