I'd like to see the Paragon and Spacer dudes 'promoted' to full factions.

I wouldn't mind some kind of space-elf type race either. Currently, the only faction doing much for me is Vanguard.

I dunno, guys, the Amazons and Syndicate and Assembly are pretty weird, if you ask me.

The Amazons are all-female, wear weird bone armor suits, and make use of bows and arrows in combat, on top of their love of animal mounts.

The Syndicate are closest to human, sure, but they can have purple or blue skin, and are one of the only two races to have innate psychic units without the need for a secret tech.

The Assembly are... the Borg, and can go from looking like people in strange suits all the way to being robots with human-like heads, or weird mechanical monstrosities with human-like heads.

Each of them also has a culture and society wildly different from the baseline human one that the Vanguard and arguably the Dvar represent. The Amazons are more like nature-loving elves, while the Syndicate is a strange slaver society, and the Assembly view other life forms as raw materials and parts to scavenge.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be fine with more alien-looking races, but I'd also love to see more human-looking races that display strange or ancient cultures more openly and directly.

Yeah one of the problems with doing 'Alien' races, is that they can end up just being 'Alien' in a purely graphical way. Mechanically they don't play that different from anyone else.
Now if you just decide that you are going with mostly 'Human' races, then you can't forget that you need to make interesting mechanics. Nor are there likely to be cosmetic distractions to make you think that the race is great, even if its just that you like their visuals.

Just some random ideas:
Xenomorphs?
An all male race of religious purists?
Restored Paragons?
A mercenary company, limited to skirmishers from 2factions,and unique elites?
A faction centered around Imperial Knight like walkers(40k or Battletech like).
A horde like faction, that does not build cities, but gains units from combat/devastation?

Assuming the Dvar aren't actually Dire Penguins under those suits....
Even if we assume that, IMHO the Dvar are the most boring faction aesthetically, and the most "generically human". The Vanguard have a tank unit and a rifleman unit - meanwhile, the Dvar have a tank, a rocket truck, riot police, grenadiers, another tank with a drill on it, their flying unit looks like a very boxy airplane instead of a weird hover flyer...

Conceptually and lore-wise, they're fairly interesting, but their look just doesn't carry them forward IMHO. And tbh, even their lore isn't that groundbreaking. So that's why I lump them together with the Vanguard as the "most human" factions.

Yes more Alien races please maybe extra dimensional invaders? or a Purely robotic empire doesnt

I would also love to see the option to get heroes from the Minor factions when you have rep with them to a certain rank atleast

I'd like to see the E-bots made into a full faction, but as that is unlikely, I'd like to see an uplifted alien humaniod Snail faction.

Or an Alien infiltration confederation faction, with like Grey, Retilians, Nordics, and so on units from Alien conspiracy theories.

Or an Alien Ethereal Faction, but more humaniod then Psion fish. Like they were in the middle of a sending to a higher level when G-Bombs near their world twisted it instead, now they are Ethereal, but still material.

The ha

The hard part is that that those heroes have to be able to handle weapons and stuff.

I have a feeling that one of the upcoming factions will be heavily tied to water/oceans, considering the amount of water sectors prevalent in most map modes. Personally I'd love that, currently water sectors feel like a nuisance, an obstacle to be overcome. This would give them more meaning and make games more interesting.

Maybe an amphibian race of space merfolk or reptiles?

Here's what I have in mind:
• You start as aquatic-only race with a colony in the middle of the ocean. Your units and heroes have great movement in the water, but can't go on land.
• Terramorphing option in the research tree that allows to flood coastal sectors and expand oceans. Instead of roads they use rivers/ocean currents.
• You can research "landwalking" the same way as other factions research ocean travel via ships, except your units and heroes gain the ability to go on land — either by foot or in giant portable watertanks (either mechanical or organic).
• Units consist of several core race "specialists" and various aquatic creatures, think marine biologists and their lovely pets.
• Weapon-wise they could use Biological/Arc (masters of sea storms) or Biological/Psionic (but then we already have Kir'ko with the same set). Not sure about this.

A couple examples that come to mind are the Naga from WoW (reptilian authoritarian faction led by glorious Queen Azshara, fairly xenophobic, strong ties to dark magic); the Morgawr from Endless Legend (manipulative psionic species who were ruthlessly experimented on but managed to escape); Merfolk and aquatic elves from D&D.

I like the idea of an aquatic species or something like the extra dimension invaders Species 8472 in Star Trek that exist in fluidic space. Would really help flesh out the water the based gameplay which feels underdeveloped.

I already mentioned this in the factions brainstorming thread but The new factions need to fulfill themes that the exsisting factions don't fufill. We don't t have a cute "funny" faction so I think we will get space hobbits or an ewok like race next.
