Yes, I already know that the Switch is a much more casual system then say the Xbox One or PS4. And yes, I've already played many hours of Stellaris on PC and know that it would maybe be a difficult thing to get right with the controls...

But honestly I still think it would work and just kinda wanted to make a pitch for Stellaris: Nintendo Switch Edition.

Why?

-The Nintendo Switch is a relatively new console and is selling like hotcakes, Stellaris would if done right perhaps be a staple for the console.
-I do not know the specs for the Switch, but I'm sure it could handle Stellaris.
-Stellaris on the go?!
-A whole new fanbase to introduce to the paradox games!
-I think it would sell pretty well. Honestly, I'd buy it.

Kind of a simple intro but you guys get the point. Is there even a possibility of this happening?

The real major issue is that the switch is portable. and the game is very very cpu intensive

This is a major problem when looking at it from a portability standpoint. you'd literally be just watching your battery meter drain in real time. again this isnt a problem on consoles that arent designed to be portable. but with the switch there's na expectation it will be portable andusable. And given the constant cpu intense nature of the game, that's gonna be hard to make without making a ton of compromises graphically and from the AI perspective. so you'd end up making a choice between

1) looks decent, decent ai, but lasts 15 minutes
2) looks bad, slow dumb ai, lasts 2 hours

Edit: Well apparently now Civ6 is coming to the Switch which is semi-surpising but not really given that it's on iPad anyway. I still think my points stand given Stellaris is more realtime vs civ's turn based.

But who know maybe time will make me look like a fool.

Hey, that'd be cool honestly. At this moment in time we're working in small bite-sized and manageable chunks as far as development goes. While I love the idea (because Switch is my console of choice right now, due to lots of traveling!) it's not something that's in the plans at this moment in time. I've received a ton of feedback during gamescom while on the booth for Stellaris Console that people want this on Switch. Like I said, it'd be cool! That feedback I've received during gamescom and since has been given. That's as much as I can guarantee.

WRT the Switch as a console: It's not really a question of whether or not the console is more 'casual' or not. Look at Monster Hunter. MHWorld on Xbox, PS4, and PC is considered by their communities (myself among them) to be the more casual version of the game, while Generations Ultimate on the Switch is for the hardcore MH franchise fans... so really, that's not something of a concern. The platform doesn't dictate whether a game is casual, the game and how you play it does :)

But anyway, as much as I'd love to see Stellaris on Switch, right now it's a far off dream.

Well, at least it's being thought about! I know it's probably a bit taxing already preparing this game for release on major consoles. Hopefully we'll see a Switch release eventually!

No it's so stupid I HATE THIS AHHHHHHHH On that tiny screen!!

I would call Nintendo the company and the Switch a major player. Nintendo was one of the first consoles to ever release with it's NES. And has now sold millions of Switches(20m), so it's popularity is booming and will only increase. I got one without expecting much, but my son and I play it all the time because of it's mobility and the fact it has a few really fun games on it. More will only help :D.

I signed up for the forums because I wanted to make a comment about Stellaris console edition, and how the switch is honestly the best console for it and I really think Paradox is missing an opportunity here.

For me, I have Stellaris on my computer, and for all intensive purposes, I think computer is the best way to play this game. Mouse and keyboard all the way. But, if I were to buy this game again, the only way I would do it is if they released it for the Switch. I have all the consoles, and sorry but I'm not interested in playing Stellaris on my couch using a gamepad. But if I could play it on an airplane, or in my hotel room while I'm travelling with my switch, that would be dope and I'd definitely pay for the game again for that.

Additionally, they could utilize the touch screen capabilities of the switch, which is part of the reason why I think the Switch would be the most superior experience out of the big 3 consoles.

As far as the battery life goes, the switch's battery life is honestly pretty terrible anyways. If you're playing any graphically or cpu intensive game, the battery life is like 2 hours. If you own a switch, and use it on the go, you're probably used to having it plugged in most of the time anyways. But it charges with USB, and everyone has those chargers everywhere. I got like 15 in my house, and another 6 at work in my office. If I'm ever playing my switch not plugged in, it's when I got like 15 minutes to maybe an hour to kill. Longer gaming sessions I prefer to dock it (and play it on the big screen), or it's because I'm on a plane, and planes always have USBs or AC plug-ins available to use.

I believe it's not on the switch because it can't handle it. Simple enough. Maybe one thing if it was turn based but look at how many complaints about lag on PC. Imagine it on the Switch. I am worried about this on console. Maybe if it was turn based, but real time, I think is a real issue.

As far as I understand, there isn't much of a performance gap between the Switch and the Xbox One, so that argument is pretty much nonsense. Unless they say Stellaris will only run on a Xbox One X, and not a regular Xbox One. But I would imagine they'll adapt the game enough to run reasonably well on an Xbox One non-X.

Somewhere on this forum they posted that they were making the Xbox One Edition based off 1.7 without crossplay and adapted for Xbox performance.

Rather than Stellaris, which would be way behind in updates and dlc by the time the port would be ready, it would make much more sense to make a new game from the ground up specifically for consoles. I would love a paradox style strategy on Switch but maybe another game entirely like a new Sengoku or a Cold war game or a Paradox take on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story.

It's important to remember that not all games are made equal. What can seem similar in terms of gameplay or scale/depth, can have quite varying backend and offer different challenges when it comes to the porting process.

Both Stellaris and Cities Skylines were ported by the same team - Tantalus. They are the guys to make that determination, in regards to Stellaris and Switch. Currently, it seems a fairly remote possibility, as cool as it sounds in principle.

(I freaking love the Switch as a platform too!)
