im now stuck with 50 year old character who got 4 young wifes, and got no children... plus recently got a -90% fertility trait... its granted that he will die without children... is the only way to evade game over is to win game before he dies?

9 daughters and one son dead in infancy is my latest achievement.... Happens. Look for a fertility wife, might save you.

Heirs is not restricted to male childs. It will also take brothers, fathers and uncles into account if I remember correctly.

Is it possible the game lowering guy's fertility after each child? Maybe this lowering should only happen after sons, not after daughters? Is fertility increasing back to where it was when a child dies in infancy? Having 6-8 daughters and two dead sons with 4 nice and young fertile wives I think my 30-ish years old ruler is supposed to keep trying until there's a proper heir... That'd be a realistic thing to do?

yep, when i played Nagayoshi Miyoshi that one time, he died with only daughters, his brother inherited

or have the option to adopt someone added to the game for some fun and to rub it in your brothers' faces xD

does that mean i can support a uncle to inherit clan, and i will be able to play him after my character dies? father - dead, no brothers >.> i wonder if there is still an uncle who is not yet dead >.> my whole Chosokabe clan was overrun with Takeda courtiers just after Takeda clan was defeated and Katsuyori became my master of arms...

wow, chosokabe and takeda? damn, how did you reach that part of the continent? xD unless they came over to you.

post us a pic!

Takeda and Miyoshi as 2 of my masters xD out of my 41 court members 12 are from Takeda clan >.>

its easy to get them, just do a marriage just before that clan gets whiped out, and you will most likely get all of their members.

Lol, it's kinda rude they are all crashing at your court after they lose theirs.

I noticed this kind of flows of characters - but never matched the dots with prior royal marriages. I should marry more into failing clans, always low on courtiers.

When I don't particularly need to set up betrothals to keep my clan afloat I sometimes just don't do any marriages- whatever other guy who shows up as my direct land-heir is under my control after I'm assassinated and that's usually much better than struggling with some five year old kid as the clan leader.

We discussed adoption a lot during design, since it wasn't uncommon during the time period. We found it to be too exploitable though.

Not being able to father children at an old age for a man is already bad enough. If I have wives that are 16 or 17, they should be giving me babies even if I am 70. From my gameplay it would appear that this is not the case. Adoption that is only enabled for a male above age 60 with no male child is something that would be very useful in this game.

The adoption would be really a nice feature if it comes in future.

Which relatives exactly are the ones that inherit the titles without giving you game over?
* sons. of course
* uncles (both mother's and father's side? or only father's)
* male cousins? (again, of both/father's side?)

It should be possible to check who can you rely on and when you are in danger! because there are non-related fellow clan people out there in you court as well!

I don't have a full list but you have an icon at the top of your screen (hand holding a torch) saying your heir is a wrong one. That's when you need to nominate someone closer to you.

In general, have 4 young wives with positive traits on your ruler and all his sons at all time - before you give them any lands of their own. Should give you 6-8 kids throughout the life for each individual which means you will have enough people to give daimyos to.

I've been requesting a 'blood drop' symbol, like that in the original Crusader Kings, to show who's a valid inheritor. It would help figure this dilemma out, when you reach it.

Maybe combine adoption with some kind of legitimacy feature - making him less liked and vassals more likely to prefer pretenders to rule the clan.
Getting demoted in the clan structure is still preferable to the game simply ending.

Solution is adoption. Have a same dinasty member marry a daughter that's a valid adoption and he would inherit.
Take it as penalty he gets half the honor passed by and the issue is solved. There SHOULD be an adoption system anyway.
