I just loaded eu2 1.05 and I played it fine for awhile, and then I saved my game and logged out. I came back later to start again and when I clicked on the icon it says No disc inserted. I ejected the disc from the CDrom and reinserted it and clicked Play from the menu that came up and it said No disc inserted again. I inserted another cd from another game that requires a disc and started it and it recognized the disc.

I have:

1.4ghz P4
512 mb ram
kenwood 40x cdrom
geforce4600 128mb ram
soundblaster audigy 2
windows xp home

Please let me know what other information I can provide that might make it easier for you to help.

Thanks!

first, back up your save games (they are under ...\scenarios\saves\).

second, uninstall the game following this procedure:
http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20775

then re-install the game and try if it runs fine with no patch. If it does not, report here.
If it does, install the patch and try to play. If it does not work with 1.05, post here again and tell us wich version of the game you have (North American, Scandinavian, Spanish, Italian, etc - hint: look at the name of the publisher on the back of the box).

some things here may help you:

(of course you can skip the uninstall part, you've just done it).

when it says no-cd, remove the CD, insert another CD (music or game), click ok (or whatever), when it prompts you again, switch the cd for the good one. It could work (yes, I am desperate :D ).

On Windows XP Home you are usually the Administrator by default, but check this to be sure.
go to control panel, User Accounts and verify what is your account status:
on mine it says at the bottom of the window "Viper37-computer administrator".
if it says something else than administrator for you you'll have to switch back to this status and again, uninstall and reinstall the game + patch.

did you install any software or modified any hardware component between the last time you played EU2 and the time at wich the problem arised?

Another few questions...

Are you using the default installation path for the NA version?
(i.e. C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Europa Universalis 2\ )
If not, try that and use the default install (not a custom one).

Do you have an unusual drive letter assignment for your CD-ROM? By unusual I mean something other than D:\ or E:\

I gather that you're able to install 1.00 and the 1.05 patch but that it's when you try to run the game that you get the "CD not found" error. Is that correct, or are you now unable to install the patch as well?

Glad you're up and running. Enjoy. :)
