No events firing with vic2hoi2 mod?

I have been playing a converted game from Victoria....it is now the end of 1937 and I have not had one single event fire as Japan, and the Spanish Civil War, elections etc. have never happened.

Is this a shortfall of the converter? Is there any way to manually edit the savegame to include the events from, say, the 1936 campaign?

Also how do I trigger an event for another country? I tried to manually fire the Civil War event but it happened to me instead.
