I love the game, but I am on my 4th attempt at Baltic breakout.. each time I'm doing well.. wearing the enemy down after 2 hours of stubborn micro management..

and the game freezes and crashes.

I'd shrug this off if I had the option to SAVE THE DAMN GAME!!!!

I can't get past this bloody scenario because it keeps crashing after 2 hours and I can't save.

Happened to me too until the last patch. An idea that might/may not work (but just to get past this scenario) try playing with sound turned off in the game options, make sure your system is not overclocked, and don't use many sonar buoys (there is only one sub which I'm sure you already know about).
