So I decided to fire up CK2 while waiting for 3 to come out, and 3 games in a row my character was assassinated in less than a year after starting. SOOOOO annoying. Can we get a mechanic in CK3 that prevents a player from being assassinated for at least a short while (3 years?) after starting a new game? In 2 of the 3 cases it was in the first year and the game hadn't even made an auto-save so I couldn't continue.

You can set the autosave interval to be as frequent as monthly (or make a save on game start to load from).

Who are you playing as? Carloman?

Do remember to set on an option to automatically ask characters to end plots in intrigue menu. This might buy you some time :)

We know assassinations and intrigue is being re-worked in CK3 to be more based on quality than quantity of plotters (a very welcome change).

I have started dozens of games and in not even one of them have I been assassinated within a year - I don't think I've ever even been assassinated anywhere in the first decade.

I cannot remember having this problem, though depends who you are playing I suppose. I always find it is a good idea to save at start once you have set up the game how you want to play & any actions you want to take. That way if there is a disaster you can always go back to it.

I think I was murdered within the first year when I started as a Zoroastrian ruler in the Middle Asia and forced my sister who didn't like me very much to marry me. And then I appointed her my Spymaster since she had Intrigue through the roof. So much for being a meritocrat.

I would like more plot choice and parade like paying more for bodyguard and thing like that to beat carriage thug or pay an architect to not fall from high tower. Or going yourself as assasin use intrigue for the kill and martial for runaway while butchering while getting out of here when discovered.

In CK2 it's heavily dependant on which character you decide to start with.
If you select kings or emperors with many vassals of different cultures/religions, then yeah your chances of assassination are rather high, especially if you aren't at least a bit careful (hire the right spymaster, don't make your vassals angry, try to suppress all threats...). Also be careful about your wife and heirs - anrgy family generally wants to see you dead.

I think most players like to start with counts, so it's a lot harder to be assassinated.
