Hey guys, this is a little annoying. When I start the game with the shortcut or through the start menu after I click on single player there is no scenarios or save games listed on the left. But, if I use the autostart on the cd they are there. I have installed the patches to 1.3a, and have no other issues yet. I can play the game it is just sort of annoying. Anything you can tell me that can help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you may have registry problems.

I Would uninstall and reinstall.

Did you install any mods?

Sounds to me the shortcut icon no longer points to the correct startup directory for your hoi 2 installation.

The game looks in the sub folder "scenarios" for available scenarios and in it's sub folder "save games" for saved games.

Installation of a mod may very well have caused this.

Simply throw away your shortcut on the desktop. Open up the Windows Explorer, navigate to your hoi 2 game folder and drag with your right mouse button depressed and control key on your keyboard also depressed, the hoi2.exe file to your desktop. From the popup menu select "create shortcut", and normal operation should be restored.

I have deleted and re-installed; same result. I have not insalled any mods or anything like that. In fact I just got the game and have only played it for a couple of hours.
Also tried making new shortcut. The ONLY way I get any scenarios is to make a shortcut to the autoplay on the cd.

Where do you live?
What language is the game in?
Are there any logos on the CD beside Paradox?

I live in Canada, it's in English, and Paradox is the only emblem on the game.
And FYI my computer has a Celeron 2.6 CPU, 1GB of RAM, my video card is a Nividia 5700LE(256MB of RAM), I have not installed a sound card, so it is just an on board sound card, and I have about 18GB if space on my Hard drive.

One other check you could do though.

Use the Windows explorer and navigate to your main Hoi 2 folder. Check it's contents. There should, amongst other things, be a folder named "Scenarios" and an executable named hoi2.exe

If both are there, double click on the executable. Do not use any shortcut. Do the scenario's pop up now?

Yes, there are files in the Scenario folder. If youocheck previous threads, you will see that I can access the scenarios and saved games only if I use the autostart on the cd. Not if I use the shortcut, start menu, or the executable in the hoi2 folder. I can and have been playing the game; its not a maajor problem, just really annoying.

Well, it's weird nonetheless. Something must be messed up somewhere to say the least. Because the versions I have simply look in the hoi2 root folder for a folder named "scenarios", and simply lists the .eug files that are there.

When you revert back to the original version that is on the CD (ie. de-installing your current version, reinstall from CD and don't apply a patch), does it still behave like this ?

Yes, no matter what I do there isn't anything listed on tthe left side unless i use the autoplay pn the cd. I have all the patches downloaded and I even tried installing each of them, then trying the game. Same thing happens every time.

Well, this is bizarre.

Who is the publisher of the version you have? This info should be on the manual, the CD or on the box somewhere.

Also (to rule out any OS interference), you could try the following. Create a temp folder (call it temphoi2) in the root of one of your drive letters that refer to your hard drive (C:, D: or something lke that) with enough space (500 MB or higher).

Now, use the Windows Explorer to select your current hoi 2 installation folder in the tree view pane to the left. Click in the right pane and hit <ctrl> A to select the entire contents.

Now, depress the <ctrl> key, left click on the selected contents and drag it to your newly created folder. After windows has copied over all the files, select your newly created temphoi2 folder. Now double click on the hoi2.exe application directly from within the windows explorer. Does it show the scenarios now?

Well. It was just a wild hunch on my part, but it seems that there is some sort of (maybe OS related) issue with the name of your folder (and it's parent folders) where you installed hoi 2.

Manually copying over the lot to a new, short, and well defined folder name would either confirm or dismiss that assumption. In your case, it confirmed it. ;)

Delete the original one and keep the one that is working, then if you want full function and upgrade ability then change the path in the registry.
You can look at the manual uninstal thread to get an idea about the registry entries.

Help! I deleted the original and tried to change the path in the registry. Didn't really know what I was doing, so I followed instructions. Didn't help. I can still play the game, but the autostart only goes to install, and there is no path in the start file. I think I might have screwed up when I used the uninstall command?! The manual uninstall thread didn't help me much, so anything you can tell me will be appreciated.

You cannot use uninstall command, that is why I said delete the original one, NOT uninstall it.

just create a new shortcut on the desktop, then point it to the exe in the folder you copied the game to.

However you will need to reinstall the game inorder to apply patches.

You may want to delete the other folder then follow the manual uninstall instructions completely. Then reinstall from disk and use the same name for the folder you used for the second copy.
