I forgot why this happens but I have a primary kingdom title (Andalusia) and a bunch of other kingdom titles. I have one heir, so when I die, my heir takes all the titles, however now a new kingdom title is primary. And I lose all my courtiers. I tried destroying one of the titles (Castille) but then another one (Navarra) still became primary. I don't have enough prestige to destroy them all before I die. They all have Scandinavian elective attached to them.

Can someone explain why this happened? And how to prevent it? It seems like there must be something obvious I'm missing. Is it something about the order created? About alphabetical order?

I guess your heir have a Basque / Castilla / Leon culture. From my observation, primary title will switch after succession to match owner's culture.
For the same reason we can always see Anushteginid switch to Oghuz kingdom in 1178.
I don't check the file to validate my thoughts, just an assumption.

Unfortunately, that's not the reason. We are both the same culture and our culture is only found in my primary kingdom (hybridizing culture, no link to Castile or Navarre).

Anyone have any other ideas?

It's an old bug that apparently nobody bothered to fix yet... Reported here on the forum too. I believe it's tied to which title goes first in the in-game internal list of titles or something. I noticed it twice: when having kingdom of Jerusalem among other kingdoms it switched to Jerusalem on succession, and when having Frisia, Lotharingia, East Francia, Bavaria etc it switched to Frisia upon succession. IDK if culture could be part of the reason: in case with Frisia I was Dutch, but in case with Jerusalem I was Siculo-Norman and my primary title was Sicily/Trinacria.

The solution that is there – see which title becomes primary upon succession, reload to a point before succession and make this title primary, everything should be ok now. Also, never play in Ironman precisely because of this sort of issues.
