Hi, I seem to experience a problem with trading in the COT's. At the start of the game I have my trade income in the COT calculated correct, for example I get an income of about 3-4 with e.g. 4 merchants. But over the time the income begins to decrease. The problem is that my trade level in the calculation shown begins to decrease. I have trade level 2 in the technology window for example but in the calculation it is shown as 0,01 (would have to be 0,2 if I'm correct), so I get 0.something trade income from the COT even with 5 Merchants present. I have the 1.09 patch installed. Would be nice if anybody could help or tell about the same problem. Maybe its not a bug but something about the game mechanics I don't understand (I have lots of trade agreements with other nations for example). Thanks.

Each trade agreement lowers your trade efficiency by 3%. Except for perhaps one or two strategic TAs you are pretty much forbidden to use them anymore -- at least that's the effect of this new rule.

In any case, the data in your game are WAD.

As jwolf said.

You used to be able to make trade agreements with every single nation in the game, with no penalty. This would effectively mean that none of your merchants would *ever* be competed out. More or less, an exploit.

So the TE penalty was added during the 1.08 beta patches. You can still be a good trading nation, but you got to work at it a bit more.

Thanks a lot! So that is the answer. Sorry for posting my question at bug reporting. I just used to play the game some years ago and now started again and installed the patch. Thanks again for your help and sorry for beeing to lazy to read the whole list of changes that come with the patch.

If you're coming from a much older version of EU2 -- perhaps even version 1.00 -- do yourself a favor and read the list of changes. Go to the tech support forum thread titled "latest version is 1.09" and read successive changes from whatever version you had been playing. Even from 1.07 to 1.09 the changes are dramatic, and from 1.05 it's almost a completely different game. Be prepared for huge changes in inflation, colonies, revolt risk, war exhaustion, military support and badboy effects, for starters.
