not supposed to use Ruler Generator?

So is there something not allowed when creating a custom character? All of my children are inheriting the worst possible traits which are coming from no where. All my kids are getting hunchback, ugly, slow, and the like, for no apparent reason. What is going on?

They have events that give them bad traits. They're apparently a 'city of monsters' according to the wiki.
