I have played several games of HoI but never this far into the game as I quit when I realize I am beaten or I quit when I realize there is nothing left but mop up. I am playing U.S. original version of the game patched to 1.05c on Dell 2.26 P4 with TI4600 and 1536 megs of RAM. Using the latest and greatest drivers etc. I am playing Germany and the only cheats I used were patching the game prior to starting with the no time limit patch and giving myself 500 DI to start. I don't drop below 475 but I want to be a more forceful negotiator. I capture a large portion of Europe Asia and North Africa. After capturing the last Soviet point province (I think) I try to annex no luck. I let them recapture Irkutsk so I head back and when my army arrives there or is close, the game CTD's. This is not like logging out, I just blinked and I was at the desktop. I scream and curse and pound my fists then load the last autosave. The game crashed very near the end of the October 1943, the 29th I believe. So the autosave is back about 29 days. The autosave crashes though within 16 game hours of reloading on the first of October now. I can't get by it.

Any suggestions? It is not the torpedo_plane bug as I already tried fixing that. I sent the autosave to Vulture. Should I send it elsewhere?

I should add that HoIfix did not work.

Thanks

One thing to try is loading the game as a different nation and trying to play past that point, if it works save the game and try and proceed as your original nation.

Try doing nothing! also cancel any move orders that units may have.

Also what happens if you play from the previous save? If you have auto save set to 1 month than you should have "old" autosave 2 months before the first crash.

EDIT: Are you sure you installed 1.05C correctly?

I believe I have v1.05c loaded correctly. It appears in the options screen window when I load and I think I did load it correctly. Stopping movement did not help. I reloaded the game on the old autosave and played through 4 months on super-fast with no crashes but created another problem. I no longer have the old autosave to go back and play.

May I make a suggestion so that others don't go through this? In the future you should remind people they should put aside those saves in another directory. They may be frustrated and not thinking entirely clearly when they try what you ask.

Regardless the game is trashed now and I had been playing whenever I got a chance for several weeks now. I think I will take a little time off before I restart.

Thanks for the help.

If the old autosaved worked then what is the problem with continuing with it?

But you will have new ones that will now work. ;)
