I started the game as a custom Hellenic landless adventurer. Eventually i blobbed, reformed the faith, and restored roman empire.
But soon after restoration my vassals started to embracing Old Hellenic en masse for no apparent reason.
Is there a bugged event for ai rulers or what?
I had 50% fervor at the start, but it quickly went to 100, and they still keep converting to old hellenic along their capital counties.

Ok, this is ridiculous.
I'm playing 1.16.2, started at 1.16.1
I restored Roman Empire as norse-italian hybrid culture and reformed ASATRU faith.
This stupid chain reaction started again. Vassals started to convert into old Asatru faith for no reason at all.
This is straight up bullshit.
IMO old Hellenic is scripted so your decision to restore the Roman empire might be tied to the old Hellenic religion.

I think the only thing you can do here is to convince your religion is superior over the old Hellenic. Maybe use a Legendary seed legend to spread your religion through Evangelize Realm decision. This works most of the time, and I cannot find any other way of spreading your religion further, other than remaking your religion once again. Also, force converting your vassals to have your religion will slowly help you spread your religion, but that may be quite slow tho.

Agreed that "Evangelize the Realm" is really super helpful. To add to that, vassal directives are also pretty great to make sure vassals are actually converting their land. When I was doing my "Mother of Us All" run, I found both of these tools invaluable for large scale conversion. A good court chaplain can't hurt, too, because there'll always be some lands left you'll have to convert yourself in my experience. If the vassals are still doing a lot of converting back, then maybe they'll have to be relieved of their titles. Especially zealous vassals of the "wrong" faith can be pretty stubborn.

The spreading isn't a problem. I only managed to restore Rome after several wars with Abbasids. By that time 3 core greek kingdoms were fully under my control and already converted to Hellenic. After restoring they all started flipping chain reaction, and Sicily as well.
I'm not really looking for a gameplay solution(i gave up already), but for bug/feature confirmation and maybe pointing to game files where this event located.

Ah, I see. I'm not sure if these are all the relevant files, but they should at very least give you a good starting point if you want to dig deeper:

[...]\Crusader Kings III\game\common\decisions\80_major_decisions_roman.txt

If you reformed the faith BEFORE the "Restoring Rome" decision, it will convert all (or most) of your vassals and family to the unreformed version - Old Hellenism, that's just how the event is scripted. Most likely, you also play administrative - make sure you have changed the state religion to your reformed version, as I belive it also is changed to the unreformed one. Btw - if you reform Hellenism before "Restore Rome" you will need to create a new faith to benefit from cool and unique tenet - Household Gods.
