Anybody know of forum sites where I could discuss old paper map & cardboard counter & dice games???

The games I'm interested in finding forums for are:

VG Civil War

AH Empires in Arms

AH Pax Britannica

Thanks to anybody who can point me to the right sites.:)

Im very fond of VG CW, and will happily slaughter you if you can think of a way to moderate it.

Hannibal, the over confidant.

Which Forum?

Aaaahh, Angelastus, but the question of which forum depends on where I can get the best response. I didn't want to post on the General Discussion because its more oriented to EU. Off Topic was another possibility, but since the posters there are for things like beer, football (not US style), hockey, marriage, and George Bush's whatever, I thought I'd make my plea for suggestions to those interested in the period. One can certainly learn as much about history from a good game as from a book, I think.

I went to Web-Grognards, and strangely enough found variants which I had written for VG's Civil War. I must have posted the variants years ago to Consim-list. Wierd that it's still available on-line.

I quite agree about the value of a good game.

Oh, and please don't call me aNgelastus. I'm not the least bit angelic!:D

I've been a fan of Empires in Arms since I first met it back in '93. Since I've played only on few occasions because it's pretty hard to come up with other players. Few years ago I heard about project to convert this great game to computer but I don't know did anything come out of it.

So... If anyone here has any clues if there is some kind of computer product based on this game I'd be grateful to hear about it.

Empires in Arms is great....this link is to a webring of EIA sites I think....

This one is a link to the EIH development group, they are making EIA into a much more complicated and detailed game. I haven´t tried playing their game, but it is rather interesting...

Empires in Arms

Thanks for the leads.

The EiA webring contains about 13 sites, but only one contains a forum, that being the Yahoo site. The Yahoo site is a developement site for a player project called "Empires in Harm" (ugh what a name:p ). It's led by a Canadian named Mike Treasure who was living in Japan last time I corresponded with him. He and a group of friends in Canada generated a lot of additional leaders and were trying to make a variant starting in 1789. I borrowed his list of leaders to make the 1796 variant which you can find on a site called "The Field Marshall's EiA webpage" maintained by Mitch Land.

The problem with the EiH project, in my view, is that it is making an already very complex game even more complex. Mike Treasure and friends are demonstrating that you can do amazing things with computers now, making your own maps, counters, etc.

I'm going to check Consim again. The thing they've got for VG Civil War is a single thread of 213 messages!!! Now that is no way to run a forum. There used to be an EiA e-mail list. But these forums are a much cooler way to communicate.

213! That's nothing. Take a gander at the discussions for things like ADG's World in Flames, or the Great Battles of History series from GMT games (mentioning the two I'm most interested in.) I'm sure that some of them have something like 6000 posts on them. Actually, that's mainly why I'm just an occasional visitor rather than a member.
