I'm not sure if it is even related to this but this is when it started occurring. After the new Windows 10 Creators Update slowed down my computer I went back to a previous build of windows. I'm currently playing a game with a mod that is only updated for version 2.6.2 so I have the game on that version on steam. Basically what is happening is that when I try to launch the game in any version but the latest (I have tried with version 2.6.2 and 2.6.3) the launcher goes full screen and then closes, and the game does not run. Is anyone else having this problem and is there anything I can do?

When you go back game versions you should delete everything in the Documents/Paradox/ck2/ folder (except save games) and let the older game recreate it.

Also make sure you do not have enabled any DLCs or Mods from after the release date of the older game version.

Ok I will try this when I get back home.

Is that with this unnamed mod in use? Or even unmodded?

OK then, let's do a full **clean** re-install of Steam and game:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK2
- exit Steam entirely
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2 folders
- delete everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT steam.exe and the SteamApps folder
- run steam.exe to rebuild all that
- opt this game into the beta version you want
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK2 or Documents CK2 locations, before installing again.

Sorry for the late response. I have done everything you said and sadly the problem still persists. The launcher stretches to cover the whole screen and then closes, and CK2 itself doesn't run.

Only in these old versions? 2.7.2 works fine for you?

Did those old versions run OK on this computer back when they were the current versions?

Because they are the same now as they were then ... !

Yeah it really wierd that this is happening now. They worked fine when they were new and they worked fine up until thursday as betas.

Then it has to be a computer or Windows problem, but in all honesty I don't know what.

How did you go back in Windows? A restore point?

When you had the Creators update on, did 2.6.3 work then? Or you never got to try it?

I never got to try it on the creators update. I just went back to the previous version, and I couldn't go back any further. My computer installed to updates consecutively when the creators update came out, so I must have missed one. So the last time the betas worked was before the update that came out before the creators update.

I see. My instinct would be to have you press ahead with the Windows patch installations, or to do a clean Windows reinstall to get them installed without the performance issue you had with them. Presumably the game would work for you then.

Failing that I don't really know what to suggest for you, I'm sorry.

I think it was a windows 10 problem because now my computer is little more than a paper weight. Thank you for your time though.
