I hope I can explain this problem clearly enough:

I've been playing w/out a problem for a month. The only thing I had to solve when I installed the program was the screen size (which I did with the Forum's help), since in my version the settings are not easy to find.

Yesterday I installed a patch (v1.06) and after installing it I got error messages when trying to open my saved games. I disinstalled the program and erased all the HOI files from my program files folder, so as to get rid of the patch as well, and reinstalled HOI.

Now that I have installed the program again I have to change the settings again. So I open the program, and when I'm on the menu screen I use alt+tab to go to the program folder where I can find the settings and change them to 1024x768. The problem is that after using alt+tab, I can't get the program back. It shows the icon at the bottom of my screen, and the music is playing, but if I try to open it the screen goes black for a few seconds as if it was opening but then minimizes again and only shows the icon at the botton. Now way of getting the program going. I then finish the progam using ctrl+alt+del, and when I re-enter, the settings have not changed.

Any thoughts from a kind soul? Thank you.

Well I do not understand why you need to have the program running when you change the settings.
You can run HOI settings program and set the resolution in game and you can right click on the desk top select properties-settings to change the resolution on the desktop.

CTD is the problem

Thanks for the answer. I guess I hadn't explained myself too well.

Problem is now that the game CTD as soon as I double click on the icon. I've changed the settings to music off and have also changed the avi folder name to avi_back. The strange thing is I played earlier today w/out a problem.

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

My HoI is from FriendWare and I believe it's version 1.01.

Thanks

First thing to do would be to install the latest patch.

THen run the settings program again to insure your resolution is what you want, then check that another AVI folder has not been created.

Let me know.
