In my current game under the May 13 patch, the big orthodox power of Polotsk-Novgorod somehow got a claim on the Teutonic Order Grandmaster (King) title. The Russians attacked the Order, beat it and claimed the title.

Now, Polotsk-Novgorod, with its orthodox leadership and orthodox Grandmaster is known as the Teutonic Order (kingdom) while Marienburg keeps a count level Grandmaster as well. Marienburg seems to be independant, yet you cannot offer it vassalization.

This situation looks abnormal, it seemed to me that no one could steal an order title?

Completely preventing people from getting claims on order titles and / or claiming those titles by war is most likely not possible or at least would require new coding by Johan.

You could have an event giving away that title if it's held by a non-Catholic, though...

The weird thing is that the orthodox leaders are chosen exactly like catholic Grandmasters; also, Poland managed to vassalize Marienburg, but the local Grandmasters remain and are elected as always.

Weird, but the game does not crash.

Another solution would be to create the orders strictly count-level. They could only get a ducal or royal crown if they grow enough. The Teutonic Order was a vassal of Poland for much if not most of its existence and the Templars and Hospitaliers in the Kingdom of Jerusalem acted as faithful vassals. They got their revenues on lands granted to them by the king. The Templars were never independent and the Hospitaliers became independent only after the collapse of the KOJ.

Therefore, I think that my quick and dirty trick would be well grounded in history.

Hmmm faithfull  Yeah right.

Well, they had their own agenda, just like everybody else, but they never failed to defend the Kingdom in times of need. They never failed to show up and they generally accepted the most dangerous role in battle. If that's not a faithful vassal, what is?
