I think we have a wide enough selection of AARs to launch the HoI OscAARs now. I would like to target October for the inaugural voting.

I'm looking for nominations for Best AAR -- preferably completed AARs. Depending on the number of nominations I may spread this across a couple of months. AAR title and author (even better, a link) would be appreciated.

Bring it on. :)

LD

Best?

To Stand Against The Night - Prufrock
Where The Iron Crosses Grow - Yogi
World War 2 and its Origins: A Congressional History 1937-1947 - Mettermck

Funny:

The German Risk AAR - Rustican
Chopticks In The Mist - Peter Ebbesen

Technical:

Winter War Diaries - Math Guy

There are others that I haven't read, and a few unfinished ones that were also excellent. But those are my top three, w/ special mention to Math Guy and Rustican, radically different styles but very good nonetheless.

EDIT - Added chopsticks in the mist and the links.

Well, it is impossible to distinguish the best, but here are my two favourite AAR's:

1. 'Where the Iron Crosses Grow" -by Yogi
2. "Der andere österreichische Obergefreite - (The Other Austrian Corporal), A German AAR" -by 2Coats

There are many more extremely good AAR's on the HoI forum, but the above two were just appealed to me more. Congradulations to everyone who has particpated in HoI AAR's.

Tally Ho!

Thanks for the suggestions. Realize that 'Best' is subjective. Once I compile a list of nominations -- about 5 -- then I'll post a poll so people can vote.

Visit the EUII AAR forum to take a look at the latest OscAAR poll there.

EDIT: To tighten this up, let's make it Best Completed AAR to start with. In ensuing months there will be Funniest, Rookie, Short, etc, etc...

This is good stuff Lord D.

Id also like to nominate Math Guys

"Beat the AI Contest: Poland" AAR. Ok so its not an AAR, but after 4 months of solid play, I found myself waning!

But after a challenge through this AAR, I thought, "how can I refuse?"

Not 2sure what category "BEST PLAYER INTERACTON"??!!

For the Best? I also nominate Yogi's Where the Iron Crosses Grow

For the Funniest? I enjoyed NL Oxcart's An Iraqi Odyssey. Plenty of laughs there.

Thanks for the nod, Flashblade, but mine wasn't technically completed (hard drive :( ), so I don't think its qualified.

Er, let me reiterate. I'm looking for a selection of completed AARs to form a poll. Save your picks and comments for the poll itself. ;)

How about some of the earlier AARs?

To address Mettermrck's comment, AARs that were unfinishable (is that a word?) due to acts of God and faulty HDs can be considered, or they can form their own category for a future poll.

In other words, like the EUII OscARRs, I'm going to try and run this monthly. So, keep those cards and letters coming. The more variety, the better.

Technical AAR

1. "Winter War diaries" Math guy.

Are we allowed two nominations each? If not my vote is for the number one in all catagories. If we are allowed two then the top two choices of mine in each catagory.

I think all of these fellas deserve some serious recognition for the amount of work, the quality of it, and the enjoyment we all recieved reading them.

I thank all of these master AAR, wordsmiths, for the top notch entertainment they have provided me.

***EDIT***

I just read the stipulation of finished AAR's. I guess my vote would have to go to Yogis's great AAR "Where the Iron crosses grow" Next would be PRU's, "To stand against the night." It should be done by tonight or tommorow! Wow!

Thank you so much for the nominations, but my Other Corporal AAR has a ways to go. Infact, I havent even started to comment on the war yet!!

If there is a category for AARs that havent even started or have taken ages to build up a story line without even enthering the war, I would be honored to be nominated alongside Thames efforts!

BTW: I havent finished either of my AARs, .... yet!

:)

@2Coats and Thames.

I know i didnt realize that at first. I think "LD" will handle the Oscaars as they are handled in the EUII forums. I guess you guys will be up in 6 moths time for the next set of OSCAARS!

The scope of both your stories is tremendous so you should be just finishing up by then:p

"WWII and its origins. A congressional History 1937-1947" by Mettermck

if it's eligible due to not being finished.

otherwise

"To Stand against the Night" by Prufrock451.

To Stand Against the Night. Best AAR I've ever read.

Comedy....hm.

German Risk AAR-Rustican

Rise of a Soviet Nation-Exterous

I've gotten here too late! All my picks have been mentioned!

Drat.

I'd like to thank The Yogi for his nomination nod and return the favor- Where The Iron Crosses Grow is, let's face it, THE juggernaut in this contest. I'd be honored to take second place to his work.

That having been said, I wouldn't mind toppling him, of course. :D

Let's not forget the AAR that launched a thousand ships, Sytass' WAAR and Peace. This was the one that had me drooling for a copy of HoI back in the days when it was still a beta.

I ain't done yet. :D

For Best Rookie AAR- would taht apply to HoI only, or would someone who's completed and stood for awards in EU2 be disqualified? :) If so, I'd have to wait for the next Best AAR, and gods know how long that'll be away...

Solution: Drag out AAR and finish in blaze of glory right before the next voting period! :)
