Please do not remove this thread from the bug forum as it is a bug.

When playing online after a few minutes of playing, especially when a lot of events occur(war), the host and other players are not on the same time anymore. I have seen up to 2 months difference between two computers, which makes the game totally unplayable online.
It appears that the host is not affected, only clients will lag in time. I have a 20Mb line.

I hope this will be fixed in 1.3.

cheers!

All MP related questions and comments belong in the MP forum.
And as this is not a bug reporting forum, I will not move it from the Bug forum. ;)
If you had read the sticky threads, especially the ones named "YOU MUST READ THIS BEFORE POSTING" or perhaps "How to report a bug" then I would not need to be doing this.

Lag is indeed very annoying and sth that would be great if fixed. However lag is a consequence of playing online, especially Hoi2.

Lag can be caused by;
- connection speed
- processor Ghz
- router
- distance between comp
- slow host

important is that the host has a good comp and connection speed (upload imp), the clients then will only have 'big' lag when one of things above are poor

Lag isn't a bug. 100% of all games online have some sort of lag depending on the internet connections used between the players. What do you expect paradox to do to fix this? Create a lag remover program? If they did then I guarantee you paradox would instantly become the biggest gaming company ever. For now, all you can do is turn the speed down. You can adjust the speed in MP games (even though it says you can't in the manual and its blocked out under options in game) by pressing ctrl and + or - at the same time. And whenever someone gets out of synch (check up on them a few times a week), just pause the game and wait for them to get back in synch.

If you play MP you should lower the speed. Only if you have a very well connected/equiped group can you try Above Normal. If you all have decent connections, this will run relatively stable.

If any player experiences
- selected techs not starting;
- unable to merge / move armies;
- selected builds not starting

that player is probably lagging. Often a short pause allows the player to catch up to the same date as the host.

HOI does crash without apparent reason a lot, so I suggest you save monthly and/or before doing anything out of the ordinary (releasing puppets, annexing, etc.).

Goes under bug, everything wich is not intended by the develloper, and which in return has a negative effect on the player's experience . I doubt that clients going out of sync is intended by the develloper.
Do I expect paradox to remove lag from the internet? that's a cute one! of course not. Yet a few things called client or server prediction for exemple can help a lot to keep the leg effect to a minimum, even transparent to the user for low lag connections, let's say under 250 ms ping time and little packet loss. The server also should make sure that the clients are on the same time, and resyncs as soon as it feels any of them is out of sync.
If you play other real time strategy games like warcraft or rise of nations, they do a pretty good job at hiding the perverse effect of lag. This also can be done for HOI2. Actually as it looks like paradox is using the same net code for all their strategy games, fixing one would fix them all.
I hope Paradox will understand the importance of that fix and stop having that kind of thread moved away in the MP forum where it does not quite belong.
HOI 2 is great and deserve a better net code.
