Am fairly new to the HOI series, and one thing that I would really like to see on the map is the use of overlays. The current map system, you can only look at one concept at a time. For instance: Say I'm planning an invasion and want to plot the best possible routes to as many VP provinces as possible. On the current system, I have to switch between 3 separate maps: the VP map, the terrain map, and the weather map. In the Army we just have acetate (now digital) overlays with all the information that you can lay over eachother. Granted, this could be taken so far as to make the map unreadable, but I still think that you should be able to overlay several different sets of maps at once. The three I already mentioned would be particularly useful. Of course, you should also have the option of screening out what overlays are posted for better personal clarity.

Good call... that would be very useful.

I think it would be possible to use three maps at the same time. And I think this is nearly the maximum of that what MY brain can use at one time.

for examole:
1. colour of the province in the middle (terrain)
2. colour of the province on it´s borders (diplomacy)
3. a sign for something like the weather (weather)

I'm thinking more that you keep all the same concept maps, but just have the ability to put them on top of the other, mixing and matching as you like. For instance, I, personally, would probably keep the weather, VP, terrain, and national owners maps all up at once, as those are the things that I use a lot. Granted that would take a little modding of each concept as currently they all use color coding of provinces. Perhaps a hash system (alternating colors) with the pop ups that are already there to provide further information.
