Using steam on an Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
When I click play, the Paradoxlauncher windows pops up and immediately disapears and PA doesn't start :-(
Trying again steam says that Prison architect is running, trying to close steam gives me an endless wait on the message 'Waiting for Prison Architect to shut down...'

I have to kill the Paradox Launcher processes manually.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game but to no effect.

Is there a solution for this problem?
Can I use steam to roll back to the last IV version of Prison Architect?

running Steam as Root.
This is the worst advice I've ever seen. Please, for the love of god, do not try to run steam as root.

I came to complain about the broken launcher on Linux. There are 3 versions of The Slammer and it's broken in every single version.

If you hack in support for libsndio PA can be started in safe mode. The actual command will depend on the distro. On Arch, I installed the sndio package and then ...
Code:
cd $HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Prison Architect/lib64
ln -s /usr/lib/libsndio.so.7.0 libsndio.so.6.1

The biggest problem would seem to be related to the launcher.

Thanks for posting a better solution.

This is the worst advice I've ever seen. Please, for the love of god, do not try to run steam as root.

My suggestions even stated a warning for running things as root. I only add it there for a more risky approach that might work but not recommended.

About the 3 versions of 1.0 - The Slammer Update, 1.01 and 1.02 are hotfixes for the main game not the launcher itself. It's up to Paradox Interactive to work on the launcher not Double Eleven or other attached subsidiaries.

Anyway I believe the issue with the launcher on most Linux distro's is either required files aren't installed or cannot be linked (either missing the library or the system directory is read-only - Not sure who would read-only the System but it's just a thought), So I think this could be an issue to take up with Paradox Interactive and will require root to install the libraries (If missing).

Now as you stated linking the required library files manually is a better solution or Running Steam as Root is an option just not recommended (Key words: Not Recommended).

I'm so sad about this.
The IV version was such a great game, and I could run it without steam on my Linux machine. The new caretakers at paradox simply messed this one up beyond belief. Only steam versions from now on, and those don't even work even after 2 hotfixes on what I suppose is a supported distribution of Linux.

I lend a computer from my family to try it out on Windows(tm) and the new EULA is probably the biggest fuck-you-to-the-customers I have ever read. The forced launcher that I got rammed through my throat, the need for the paradox account (ooooh, I got an extra guard tower because of it, thank you so much. That really softens the blow) ...
And after all these loops to jump through and playing it for a while the game simply crashed... :(

So uninstalled it from that laptop, and went back to playing the last IV version of the game on my machine:)
I really wonder what Chris and Mark are thinking about how paradox is handling PA.
