Paradox Interactive Breaks Ground on Cities: Skylines for PC, Mac, and Linux

The Sky is Not the Limit in a New City-building Simulator from Colossal Order

COLOGNE, GERMANY — 14 August 2014 — Paradox Interactive revealed at Gamescom today an all-new city-building simulation game, Cities: Skylines, which will be coming to Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs in 2015.

Developed by Colossal Order, the simulation virtuosos behind the Cities in Motion series, Cities: Skylines pulls players out of the public transportation offices and grants them the power of true urban planning and development. From zoning to building, from utilities to beautification, and from taxation to outreach, players of Cities: Skylines will have total control in endless sandbox gameplay across massive maps – all with extensive built-in mod support.

Clear some real estate on your screen for a Cities: Skylines trailer:

Paradox and Colossal Order invite players to create the cities of their dreams in Cities: Skylines, a massive city simulator from the creators of the Cities in Motion series. Vast backdrops and maps provide players with countless ways to improve and expand their cities, building from humble beginnings up to beautiful, cloud-hugging structures and unique architectural marvels.

Cities: Skylines will Feature

  • Designed to Impress: Massive map sizes and deep, detailed design controls allow players to construct the cities of their dreams, running everything from road building and zoning to public services and taxation – and, yes, public transportation
  • Policy and Progress: Set a series of civic policies to guide the city’s growth; fine-tune the placement and direction of local districts
  • Local Beautification: Admire the vastness of your city in a polished visual style and manage a living, breathing city, all the way down to realistic water flow in the irrigation systems
  • The Sky is Not the Limit: Strive to build up a city towards jaw-dropping endgame “wonders,” and then go beyond what is possible with built-in game modding tools

When I go to this forum, the name is called Field of Dreams and I can't get back to it without clicking on a link I posted in CiM2's forum.

Can you please screenshot this for me?

Also try ctrl+f5 to see if that solves things.

Svip's picture is also what I get at the main forum page (as in no way to get back here).

Tried logging out and relogging in. No change. It stays as "Field of Dreams" even as unlogged. Ditto with the main forum page.

edit: Both are fixed now. Go Cities Skylines!

Impressive and nice looking video. Moderately excited for it, since it is too far away to be heavily excited. ;)
For the next trailer or video, I'd like a look at how you want to do the economy of the city, how residential, industry and commercial locations work. I assume it will be similar to Cities in Motion 2 cities, but that seems very detailed and maybe problematic to handle, so interested to see what you can come up with.

Just saw the trailer yesterday and tbh the cim comunity was expecting something like this to be started by CO :) Am surprised it took them so long... I see they are re-using assets from CIM2 and while that is not a bad thing, I do hope they will make the cities look more lively than CIM2 cities.

Keep up the good work CO :) Looking forward to this game!

I can't promise it will be the next one, or even a trailer/video, but rest assured that we will start giving out more detailed information regarding subjects like this in a not too distant future :)

I knew going on holiday during Gamescon was a bad idea! No idea how happy I am to see this pop up, very exciting stuff! I will be following this very closely!

I'd just see it as a longer buildup to an awesome announcement ;) We're happy to see people so excited too, welcome to the community!

Well, I saw in the trailer at 0:45 that the blue car is almost overturning as he is turning left. Is the driving style oversubscribed or more realistic? (I prefer realistic.)

What does that do for a unreleased, un-preorderable game? Will it tell me when the release date is announced, or when I *can* preorder?

Nothing, as far as I know, but it still feels good to have there ;) Maybe it shows steam that people want the game so it gets extra attention? Who knows how the wizards over there work.
